Geisha Sustainable Sushi

What a joy-- a reunion with old classmate (class of 1974!) Bob's wife Tricia was introduced to sushi on this night, and she loved everything! Now on their way to a 3- month vacation in Australia. All I can say is.....'someday!'

Thursday, June 20th-- Umijoo!! Geisha is pleased to announce that last Thursday's banquet/ book reading with friend and renowned conservationist/ author Casson Trenor was a smashing success! Geisha patrons, members of our partner organization FishWise and others joined Casson and illustrator Caia Koopman for a sumptuous feast and selected readings by the author from his new book, Umijoo. Google Books describes Umijoo as follows.... ... This event was a landmark one for Geisha, bringing us together with our friends and colleagues in a unique evening of celebrating our mutual commitment to ensuring the future of the oceans. This was the only stop on Casson's tour where he was joined in his talk by the immensely talented Caia Koopman, who's partnership with Casson will, we believe, ensure that Umijoo willl be read by generations to come. Umijoo is both a joy to read and a feast for the eyes and the imagination. Congratulations to Casson and Caia, and thanks to our friends!

Last night was the second summer Twilight Concert in Capitola. Geisha was bustling, and, as often happens, conversation turned to the topic of music at the sushi bar. Alex and Gracie wanted to seal an all-encompassing conversation, which covered the lyrics of Dylan and music as a tool for social change, with a commemorative picture.

Casson Trenor is a career marine conservation activist. He has defended whales in Antarctica with Sea Shepherd, run campaigns to reform major seafood corporations with Greenpeace, and established a number of sustainable sushi restaurants designed around the principles of ocean awareness and mindful dining. His work has been featured in books, documentaries, and periodicals around the world. He has been awarded the title of Hero of the Environment by Time magazine and was recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives as an Ocean Protection Hero. This is a most exciting event!
