Vacaville Business Owners, First, I will emphasize that public health is the first priority and will ask everyone to take the necessary precautions to protect y...ourself, those to whom you have a direct responsibility, and the general public. If you are interested in obtaining the messaging released by Solano County Health, the U.S. President, or others, please ask. At this time, I would like to communicate on the impacts in our business community. Each of you are a business owner, supervisor, or employee. You are also an individual and a consumer. Businesses need consumers and consumers need businesses. The disruption resulting from COVID-19 safety measures to business operations will vary from mild to devastating. I will not presume that I understand all of the impacts that are or will occur, but I do appreciate that business is not operating as usual at this time. Changes are happening - working from home, teleconferencing, discontinuing handshakes, postponing events, cleaning more frequently, and more. Many of these changes are temporary, some are even good; however, some may become routine. We don't know when business will resume or what normal will look like. Actions that are beginning to affect our local economy are the delayed transport of goods, changes in consumer behavior, and event/travel cancellations. Delaying retail purchases for a week or longer impacts retailers. Preparing more meals at home hurts restaurants. Canceling events/travel affects the facility owners, caterers, host organizations, and hotels. And there are other examples. Please consider how you can safely continue supporting the local small business owners and community organizations these next few days and weeks. For the affected businesses, be proactive in asking for assistance. Remind your customers that you need them. Make changes to your operations. Vacaville wants you to survive this disruption. More importantly, we want you to thrive. The Vacaville Chamber is your resource and is ready to be your partner in solving problems. We have connections to a large network of businesses, individuals, and agencies who are ready to provide support. Contact us at (707) 448-6424 or [email protected]. Sincerely, Becky Craig President/CEO
