Donner Summit Train Tunnel Hike!

Join us as we explore the abandoned railroad tunnel that has been overrun with graffiti but is still a fantastic example of the history of Northern California.The tunnel was completed in August 1867, and the first train passed through it on June 18th, 1868.

Hosted by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California This fun filled weekend will be filled with traditional dancing, live music, round dances, traditional game exhibitions, Fashion Show, Native American Arts vendors, Indian Tacos, Basket display and competition, food booths, recycling and hydration stations (bring your re-usable water canteens).

This 1,659-foot tunnel was the first railroad line to traverse the Sierra Nevada Range. It was was hand drilled and blasted over 15 months. The tunnel was completed in August 1867, and the first train passed through it on June 18th, 1868.
