Gasbol Food Pantry 07.11.2020

Greetings FaceBook Family, It is with a sad heart GASBOL Food Pantry will be permanently closing it’s door effective June 10, 2020. This would have been our 10 years anniversary. However, due to our current situation of the Corona19 and the health and safety of our volunteers and our clients the GASBOL Board has voted to dissolve. I personally as the CEO/Director of GASBOL have prayed about this for several months and this is the right decision to make at this time. We wi...ll truly miss serving the Greater Sacramento area. A special thank you to Saint Matthew Christian Church for allowing us to use their facility over the years. To the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services for all of their help and support. To our GASBOL volunteers, we could not have done this without your love, support, donations, most importantly your love to serve others. To our FaceBook family and friends thank you for your love, support, donations, and prayers. Lastly, a special shout out to my husband and son for supporting me every step of the way, their patience and all the hours helping with whatever I needed done. I know when one door closes another one opens. Have a wonderful and blessed day! Tanya CEO/Director God’s Angel Shoe Box Of Love Food Pantry

GASBOL Food Pantry Volunteer of the Month December 2019, Cathy Lester. I was introduced to volunteering at an early age by my mother, who always ... had me working with her or she would volunteer my services to everyone. My mother had the biggest heart and I enjoyed working with her most of the time as she shared love and provided care. What turned out to be the most important job she volunteered me for was, I remember as a working single mom with two kids, my mother volunteered me to work with her to take care of my Godmother, Miss Rose, whom I did not care for. In the beginning I felt it was an extreme hardship for myself and my family, especially taking care of someone who needed total care and I would have to be committed. I resented having to sacrifice whatever free time I had, and my life was now being forced to care of this particular person. But it was through Miss Rose that God showed me how to have patience, understanding, forgiveness, dedication, how to make the sacrifice to someone else other than myself. God taught me to give freely from my heart, whereas, Miss Rose became my baby and I was called mother. God let us have twenty years together before he took her home at the age of eighty-three. Miss Rose turned out to be my blessing more ways than one. My commitments and sacrifice prepared me for an opportunity to work with a ministry that worked with people who were possibly living on the streets, mental illness, addiction, prostitutes or just struggling to provide for themselves or their family. The ministry was in Life Resurrection combined with BGSS (Because God Said So....). We were able to provide hot meals, sack lunches, clothing, blankets, and God's words and prayer for approximately fifteen years. We also provide bags of groceries for up to seven families during the holiday. For me volunteering is my euphoria. I appreciate and love the interaction and the opportunity to connect with people. It reminds me and allow me to remember all of the personal directions in my journey of joy, pain, disparity, struggles I went through as God mole me into the person I have become today. For that I am eternally thankful and grateful because I found peace in him and I am blessed. For me I asked God to use me, I'll go.

GASBOL Food Pantry Volunteer of the Month October 2019 is Joan Blaise. I was born in Los Angeles almost 70 years ago (in December). I watched both of my parents be involved with public service. I became very involved as a teenager helping to register people to vote. I eventually ended up in Northern California and went to work for the U.S. Postal Service after my son started school. I was very proud to see him graduate from pharmacy school and he now is a pharmacy supervisor ...at UC Davis Medical center. I now have been retired from the USPS over 10 years ago. My primary retirement job has been to care for my 8 year old granddaughter. It has been the joy of my life. I began volunteering at the Sacramento food bank in April of 2014. I began working at food distributions at various locations. Once the locations became responsible for their own I asked Tanya if I could continue to help out. I love the fellowship and kindness shown by everyone with GASBOL. I now work in the food bank garden on Tuesday mornings and in the parent education clothing boutique. See more
