The majority of traffic collisions involving motorcycles happen when drivers don’t see the motorcyclists. #LetsShareTheRoad. Look twice before changing lanes or making a turn. Motorcyclists, please avoid blind spots and use proper hand signals. There has also been an increase in reckless driving/street racing/takeovers not only in our city, but in Orange County.... #GardenGrovePD has a zero tolerance policy for reckless driving. Street racing, burnouts and other stunts are dangerous and illegal. More than half these fatalities are not of those behind the wheel. We have partnered with neighboring agencies as part of the STEARRD (Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Reckless Driving) program to conduct additional enforcement. Over the weekend, we issued 41 citations and impounded one vehicle from a car meet in #GardenGrove. #GardenGrovePD received information in regards to a subject selling narcotics in #GardenGrove. Community Impact Unit (CIU) officers initiated an investigation and over the weekend, the suspect was seen leaving his residence. A vehicle stopped was conducted. With the assistance of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), a search warrant was then served on his house. 1,078 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, 309 grams of cocaine base, 66 MDMA pills, $4,670.00 and evidence indicative ...of a cocaine conversion lab was located and seized. On November 23, 2020, an elderly couple was home babysitting their infant grandchild when an unknown person entered their house through an open bedroom window. The suspect ransacked the master bedroom and stole a large amount of cash, before slipping back out the window undetected. #GardenGrovePD officers responded to take a report and was able to recover fingerprints from the window. During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Noah Cole, an 18-year-old res...ident of #GardenGrove. This Tuesday, December 1, 2020, officers on patrol were flagged down in the area of Bowen St. and Westminster Ave. for a robbery that had just occurred. The victim had been home alone when a person entered his house and robbed him at gun point, before forcing him outside and attempted to steal his car. The suspect ran from the scene and was observed by officers as carrying a black handgun. Once a perimeter was set up, containing him within, the suspect ran back into the victim's home and barricaded himself. As the incident progressed, the suspect was found to be Noah Cole, who was wanted for the earlier cat burglary. After a hours-long standoff where he continued to refuse to surrender, #K9Vader was deployed to help apprehend the suspect. The gun was located and determined to be an airsoft, replicating a genuine firearm. Cole was later booked into Orange County Jail and charged with robbery, kidnapping, attempted carjacking, resisting/delaying arrest, brandishing a replica firearm, and multiple counts of burglary for both incidents. Detectives believe Noah Cole may have been involved in additional crimes. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Det. In Memory of Officer Michael Rainford #EOW November 7, 1980. Officer Rainford began his law enforcement career with the #GardenGrovePoliceDepartment as a reserve officer. He quickly earned the respect and trust of everyone who worked with him; and was noted for his ever present smile and cheerful personality. On November 7, 1980, Officer Rainford was on patrol when he noticed a traffic violation on Harbor Blvd and followed the vehicle onto the westbound on-ramp of the Garden ...Grove Freeway. It was supposed to be a normal car stop for a traffic violation. Unfortunately, Officer Rainford never made it to the vehicle. He was struck by a drunk driver and fatally injured. #DidYouKnow, the #GardenGrovePD Accident Reduction Team (ART) conducted over 100 operations within a year to improve traffic safety in #GardenGrove? ART is a component of the Neighborhood Traffic Unit (NTU) and was originally created as part of a City campaign, with the goal to reduce traffic collisions and fatalities through education of traffic safety rules and enforcement. From October 1, 2019 thru September 30, 2020, ART conducted 102 traffic operations (DUI saturations, ...traffic enforcements, bicycle/pedestrian operations, etc.) and made 3,000+ contacts with bicyclists, motorists and pedestrians. A clinician rides with us two days a week and assists officers responding to calls for service, involving individuals in #BehavioralHealth crises. This #partnership, also known as the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) Collaborative, gives #GardenGrove community members immediate access to a behavioral health clinician, while allowing officers to addres...s other matters. The goals of this #collaboration include: Providing individuals needing behavioral health care and intervention with immediate and appropriate care Ensuring linkage to behavioral health programs and other resources Providing timely crisis intervention and evaluation #GGPD32 #AboutUs #MentalHealth

Over the weekend, as #GardenGrovePD officers conducted proactive patrol in the resort area of the city, they were made aware of a suspicious subject staying at the Delta Hotel (12021 Harbor Blvd). Officers developed information and made contact with the subject, at the room. During the initial search, a female subject was also located inside. Once the room was secured, officers continued their search and located a loaded 9mm handgun (with its serial number filed down) and amm...unition, among other items. October is #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth. Did you know, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men are victims of #domesticviolence? One such person is this individual (Jane Doe), who has had the odds stacked against her. Jane was in a severe domestic violence situation and left her abuser earlier this year; she moved around, but ultimately decided it was safest to live in her car; she also recently lost her job due to the COVID pandemic. One of our SRT officers came across her during his... shift and discovered her backstory. He reached out to our Garden Grove City Hall partners and other available resources, who immediately made contact with her to begin the assistance process. By the next day, #IntervalHouse had placed Jane in a hotel and began the process of securing permanent housing. In the meantime, due to her allergies and dietary restrictions, her meal options have been limited at her current location. WalmartPR heard, stepped in and provided her with a $100.00 gift card for (deliverable) groceries, to help out. Upon locating an apartment, Interval House will provide security and utility deposits, as well as monthly rental assistance for up to 24 months. They'll also work with her to secure employment and gain access to other available resources. She is just one of our many successful outreach efforts. The Special Resource Team’s (SRT’s) mission is to provide a safe and secure community for everyone, while offering services and outreach to remedy the homeless epidemic. John Doe was a habitual transient who had repeated complaints against him; whenever contacted by officers, would refuse any help extended. However, our SRT officers were persistent and after several attempts, John agreed to the assistance offered. He also expressed his interest in getting sober and returning ...to his family in Rhode Island. The Team contacted his family to ensure he would not be a transient upon his return. We collaborated with City Net to secure his bus ticket home; reached out to a local church, who put together a care package of clothing and personal hygiene items; and spoke to Walmart, who provided a gift card so he could purchase any additional necessities for his trip. Before leaving, John met with the people who were instrumental in getting him the help he needed. He expressed how grateful he was and how well he has been treated by #GardenGrovePD officers. He is just one of our many successful outreach efforts.
