"A" is for Alphabet Soup, which in these cold days might be just the spot of warmth you're looking for. Hello again, Cithirin here, and once again my brother Karnak and I have been commissioned to recommend some more Game Kastle goodies. February is a tad short on days, but there's just enough to pitch one game for every letter of the alphabet, which brings us back to today's letter. "A" is for ambitious and adventurous, two adjectives I amply attribute to our alphabet soup p...roject, but also to an ace among card games, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn. Ashes is a deckbuilding dueling game that sees you command a Phoenixborn, a nearly immortal magical being, in a ritualistic match to consume the other in a highlander-like fashion. You're tools are a 30 card deck, 10 dice which make up your resource pool, and a Phoenixborn with unique abilities and play restrictions. I call Ashes ambitious because it dares to exist in a market inundated with other games in the same genre, but by the combination of its clever systems, excellent art, and LCG model, it really goes above and beyond many of its competitors. This is a game that combines many of the best ideas from Magic: the Gathering, Netrunner, and Legend of the Five Rings, while presenting plenty of its own nuances. "A" may also stand for agency, and this game's systems are all designed to give you plenty with a plethora of mechanics to curb out randomness in favor of good strategy and often amicable sportsmanship. There's an updated version of the game coming soon with Ashes Reborn, featuring tighter interactions and streamlined card design, but the original still remains a remarkable game in its own right and may be worth a try if you're looking for a solid entry in this wonderful genre.

Hello, welcome back to the GK Spooktacular, now hand me that barbed wire, we need to stay alive until morning. Until Daylight is your typical Zombie Apocalypse, but much starker than many of its brethren. There are no shelters, no bases or safe havens, just waves upon waves of the undead. Despite the game's theme of waiting out the storm, you'll find that you're surprisingly strapped of time, needing to make the most of your turns to search, fight, and survive. You won't be alone though, after all you'll need the aid of your fellow survivors to make it through the night in one piece.

**October brings the winds of change.** Starting today, October 25th, Game Kastle in Santa Clara will be expanding our hours of operation from 11am-8pm. While our hours are more relaxed we still require a mask for entry and the practice of social distancing while in the store.
