The jaunty tunes of calliope music and the nostalgia of a bygone era will fill the Gallery at 48 Natoma during the gallery exhibit, Carousel, with spectacular photography of carousels from all over the world by Jim Berger and fantastic carousel horse mixed- media sculptures by Thelma White. An interesting selection of carousel artifacts will also be included. The exhibit opens April 16 and continues through July 1, 202.

Vice Mayor Ernie Sheldon was laid to rest today at Lakeside Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Folsom, alongside his beloved wife Tsuneko, who passed away in 1992. In a small, private ceremony, family and close friends paid their final respects to a great man who is dearly missed. The late vice mayor received full military honors. Flags at City facilities have been at half-staff since the Vice Mayor’s death on November 13, and will remain at half-staff until sundown today in his honor. Rest in peace, Ernie.

The City of Folsom sent a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom requesting that the governor allow individual counties autonomy in reopening non-essential businesses while following deliberative and safe guidelines. Similar to many small- to mid-size cities, the City of Folsom is experiencing significant economic challenges due to the public health emergency, which will adversely impact the city’s ability to provide essential public services. The letter formally requests the governor establish a city revenue stabilization fund; allocate a share of the State’s CARES Act funding to cities with populations under 500,000; and create a COVID-19 financing vehicle to support immediate cash flow needs. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced today that cloth face coverings such as bandanas, t-shirts, or homemade cloth coverings are now recommended for people leaving the house for essential activities, such as buying food or obtaining medication. Face coverings can help prevent asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic carriers of COVID-19 from transmitting it to others. Residents are urged to leave N95 and surgical masks for those who need them mostour healthcare pro...viders, first responders, caregivers, and other essential workers. Health officials stress that face coverings can provide added protection, but should not be a substitute for other precautions such as staying at home, hand washing, and social distancing. Please wash your hands before touching your face covering. Stay safe, stay home, and stay informed Folsom.

It’s a warm and sunny day, and we know many of you want to get out to enjoy the outdoors. While it’s best to stay home as much as possible, it’s ok to get out for some quick exercise just remember to maintain social distancing at all times. #FolsomStrongerTogether

Folsom community members have asked how to support seniors and vulnerable residents during these uncertain times. Here are three ways you can help: 1- Only buy one week’s worth of food and supplies at a time. This will allow stores to keep their shelves stocked and ensure there is enough food and paper products for everyone. 2- Call and check in on your neighbors, especially those who are seniors or have health issues. Offer to pick up groceries for them. Many people just need someone to talk to right now. 3- Donate to the Twin Lakes Food Bank. Any amount helps. www.twinlakesfoodbank.org.

We might be biased, but we think Folsom has some of the best neighborhoods and trails around! While doing your part by maintaining social distancing you can still engage in outdoor activity like walking, biking, running- and drawing on your sidewalks with chalk! Draw or write an encouraging message on your driveway then head outside and take a walk around your neighborhood. Tag us in all the chalk art you draw or see! #ChalkYourWalk2020 #FolsomStrongerTogether #ChalkAboutFols...om : Nikki West and Karen Burr
