Galena Street East Productions’ annual Holiday Tapestry would have been produced earlier this month. It would have been their 49th year. My children had the ble...ssed privilege to have been part of Holiday Tapestries. When I invited friends to attend a Holiday Tapestry performance, I always told them I wasn’t inviting them to see my kids, but to watch an amazing production you would not see anywhere else. I would even tell my fiends not to look for my kids on stage, but to enjoy each number in it’s entirety. The Holiday Tapestry welcomes the Christmas season with a variety of unique and fun-spirited holiday song and dance routines, recognizes world culture with international folk dances, wishes of peace around the world, and celebrates the birth of Jesus. Under the artistic direction of Jeri Clinger, these young performers learned the ethics of cooperation and hard work, a sense of duty to one another, duty to family, and duty to community. Jeri instilled a sense of kindness and love amongst each other, to their community, and to the world. She taught the performers that their performances - their songs of hope and peace, of encouragement, kindness, love, their joyful dances - are a gift to the community. Family and community is highly valued at Galena. Since Galena Street East is a non-profit organization, it involves parents’ time and commitment to work together to bring a dazzling, wholesome, and meaningful production to the stage. Parents are involved with building the sets and decorating the stage, sewing costumes, creating props, while performers work hard in rehearsals with Jeri and the award winning choreographer, Ron Cisneros. Clay and Alexandra specializes in international folk dances, and the talented Richard Clinger arranges the music. It was always a rewarding feeling to see all the hard work from so many people, working on the different aspects of the production, and then bringing together a final product to the stage for the community. It was rewarding to be part of Galena Street East Productions, for me and Hien, and for Kayleen and Colsen. See more

From catching the show from the side of the stage, to the quiet moments behind the scenes with our performers, Choreographer and Stage Manager Clay Merrill reflects on his favorite Holiday Tapestry moments.

Today's Holiday Tapestry reflections will be from some of our Choreographers. We'll start with Alex! "When I was 7 years old, my mom's friend told her about auditions for a children’s singing and dancing group. We had recently moved to California from North Carolina, I think my mom was looking for some extra curricular activities to enhance our childhood and keep us busy. Little did she know how busy Galena would keep us! As a child, I loved everything about being in Childr...Continue reading

Wow! Here we are at the end of tech week. On Saturday we'd run two full public shows, one at 1pm and the other at 7pm. Before that final show each year, the entire company stands in a circle just before the curtain opens, to express thanks for each other, and present gifts to our creative staff and tech leads. This is often a tender moment for the graduating seniors, as they realize that it is the last time the curtain will open for them at a Holiday Tapestry show. Today we want to highlight that alternate view, one the audience usually doesn't see. These are the moments behind the scenes and backstage. Backstage is where the show is really at!

Welcome to Friday! By now we've had two days of shows for the local Elementary School children, and tonight would be our first show for the general public. Jeri Clinger shares "I always love this might because we can sing the songs about the true meaning of the season. By the time we get to Friday, it all seems like the week went by so fast. All week wonderful meals were prepared by Galena moms and brought to Hiram for the performers who had to stay until 11:00 pm. The lobby looks great and the printed programs have arrived...IT'S SHOW TIME!"
