Our Rotary club of Fullerton sponsored and volunteered at Love Fullerton day. This is where many community volunteers help spruce up various projects within our city.

Fellow Rotarian Zoot Velasco wrote a poem on our club assembling face shields during this Holiday season. Please click on the video and then you can read the poem below. 'Twas two weeks before Christmas, at Coyote Hills club Not a creature was stirring, not even golf clubs; COVID had surged at St Judes ICU,... But vaccines were coming to me and to you; Rotarians were nestled all snug in their Lexus; While visions of diaper dumps formed at the nexus; And Dan in his shield, and I in my mask, We’re making more shields for St. Jude’s task, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, We sprang from PacMin to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, Gave a luster of midday to objects below, When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But an SUV and eight tiny rein-deer, With a cute little driver so lively and keen, I knew in a moment twas Susan Ouweleen. More rapid than eagles her orders they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Zoot! now, Jim! now Christian and Bailey! On, Matt! on, Faisal! on, Dan and get wailing! To the top of the Muck! to the top of the Pac Min! Get masks away! masks away! masks away all! And I heard her exclaim, ere she drove out of sight Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

I personally purchased a box for my Mom’s Alzheimer’s unit. She is already so scared and confused, with staff wearing face masks it’s more confusing for her. These face shields will help the staff and relieve some of the anxiety Alzheimer’s and dementia patients feel on a daily basis. So many untold consequences of the lockdown. This afternoon I volunteered with Rotary District 5320 by making shields for healthcare and senior care workers! Our North Orange County Rotary Clubs have made... over 65,000 face shields in just 3 weeks! They’ve distributed them to St. Jude Medical Center and City of Hope - Orange County as well as senior care facilities in Yorba Linda like Brookdale Senior Living, Senior Living Community, an Eastern Star Home, and Sunrise Assisted Living. A huge thank you to Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary, Anaheim Hills Rotary, Fullerton Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Placentia, and Rotary Club of Brea for your volunteerism in giving back to our community!
