Audi has the looks, but what she really needed from a family was the "caregiver" mentality. She is vision impaired and seems a little lost, which makes her hard to engage. She also is not house trained which requires some patience and problem solving! Audi has been placed a few times with these same details relayed, but it didn't work out. We are really hopeful that Audi has finally found a match, as her new family is accustomed to having a senior dog and want to adapt all f...or Miss Audi! Ethel is celebrating her FIRST Frostiversary! We are going to go get a Puppuccino and go for a little hike. She gets treats, training, attention, treat puzzles and regular walks everyday so I wanted to do something a little different. Maybe we'll go to the beach. I haven't taken her to the ocean yet. We haven't had to make many adjustments as we had a dog about her size for 13 years that we lost shortly before getting Ethel. Our lives were already set up to revolve around a ...Continue reading

10-year-old Bart was at Bonita Shelter and the Rescue Coordinators reached out to us for his safe exit. He was thin and needed dental surgery. Sadly, we learned that Bart has renal disease which is only apparent on labs when 70% of a dog's kidneys are not functioning. We did do dental surgery on Bart because we truly felt he needed the procedure for his quality of life, as did the shelter. He did great! He had 5 teeth extracted which left him with none! Stannie was surrendered by his family to Downey Shelter. He was VERY thin and his head whipped a quick 180 to nip you if you made him uncomfortable. On January 5th, Stannie was rescued from the shelter thanks to Desi Lara for pulling him and Holly Gorman for transporting. Stannie was shockingly even more emaciated in person so we got him straight to College Animal Hospital! They said he is probably better closer to 12-14 pounds to start (he is about 10 pounds currently). He h...as a grade 3/6 heart murmur but his lungs sound good and look good on x-rays. He has a bilateral luxating patella grade and his left front leg has an angular limb deformity. His x-rays showed an enlarged cardiac silhouette and a mild bronchointersitial pattern within the lungs that is likely age-related change. Margins of his liver, spleen, kidneys, and bladder were normal. He had ingesta filled stomach and intestines, and no obvious abnormalities of his left forelimb observed. On his senior panel Stannie has an elevation in WBC at 36k! His neutrophils and Monocytes are also elevated. He also has a mild elevation in globulins and decreased albumin. We started Stannie on a course of antibiotics to be safe. He also has a mild increase in SDMA at 20 and an inappropriate urine specific gravity at 1.028 which means he may have early kidney disease. We wanted to wait on his dental and neuter surgery until he had put on some weight, but we noticed him secluding himself one day and the next day his mouth poofed! It definitely seemed like a tooth root abscess. We moved some of our other surgeries around and got Stan in right away! Stannie received a lot of applications for a family, but some of his scared odd behaviors screamed that he needed time to decompress and have a time-tested foster take him home to help us know what to expect when he is permanently placed. The Queen of Fling stepped up and Shy Stan is on a Frosted Fling! Stannie needs a $25/month Fan to help cover his care. Otis was surrendered to the shelter by his previous family, for reasons we don't know. He's blind, and seems like he's been blind for most of his life. He can get around very well using his sense of smell and hearing. Shannon Jackson took Otis in as her first Frosted Foster, and she couldn't sing his praises enough! He's a sweet boy who didn't mind being dressed up in sweaters for the family fashion show! Shannon got him to the groomer and that only made him more handsome! Marco was brought into Long Beach Shelter as a stray with an embedded collar. The shelter did surgery to clean it up and close his wound. He was understandably sensitive being touched around his neck. We fitted him with a harness to help keep the pressure off of his neck. He got to go on a ThanksFLINGing and he was such a good boy he got to stay in his Foster home longer! Melanie described him as her "loyal guardian, protector of the realm" - he was always next to her, even w...hen she took a bubble bath! "This sweet boy is an absolute dream and just radiates love. He is playful and silly and gets so excited when he sees you. He is the perfect gentleman and deserves the very best home. Please, please, please, don't let the fact that he "nips" deter you from adopting him. He is the perfect doggo with unbelievable amounts of love to give." Thanks to Melanie's fantastic posts about him, he got his Christmas wish, a family of his very own! Brodie was brought to the shelter by his family due to their other pet not getting along with him. Holly Buderus had the honor of giving Brodie his Freedom Ride! Brodie has been one of our most popular dogs! Our email is bursting at the seams with adoption applications for him! Sadly, he is in kidney failure, and he hasn't yet found the family who is ready to take on his medical needs. Right now he receives subQ fluids three times a week. He's a perfect patient! You can watch... a video of him getting his subQ fluids in the comments. Anybody who has met Brodie is shocked he's even sick! He runs around the play yard and brings his tiny tennis ball to any volunteer willing to throw it for him. He's a super happy guy who would love a home of his own! Locket is a sweet and sensitive senior pitizen who was turned in as a stray to the Bonita Shelter. She went on a two-week Frosted Fling and the two weeks wasn’t even up before her Fling family decided she could stay longer as a foster. She’s still on the lookout for her happily ever after, though! Locket is great with everyone! She lives with a cat and a bossy canine Fling sister and has been nothing but tolerant and gentle with everyone. She is reserved upon meeting new peop...le, but warms up fast. She even met a toddler neighbor and was gentle and loved the attention. Locket is housebroken, but has a very strict schedule. After mealtimes, girl has got to go! Overall, Locket is mellow, but she does get spurts of energy where she wants to prance and play with her people and other dogs. She has been on many excursions, including to the beach and the winery, and is always a perfect date. Her Flingers shared, Locket has no concept of personal space and loves to put her face right up next to yours. She loves to play and gently roughhouse with people, and will cuddle all day long. She prefers a sofa or human bed to sleep on but begrudgingly accepted the dog bed on the floor with us. She likes to be covered up at night with a blanket, and gets itchy zoomies where she runs around and rubs her body on everything and rolls around on her back vocalizing. Cotton Blue was surrendered to the shelter because his family was moving and they didn't make plans to include him. His family reported a history of seizures (though he hasn't had any since January 2019), he has a grade 3 heart murmur, severe dental disease and his kidneys are beginning to fail. But one look at him and all you see is the happy face of a loving dog who doesn't know he's sick. He's healthy enough to have dental surgery, which we have scheduled for him. We know... he will be feeling so much better afterwards! Thank you Cheryl Anne for giving Cotton Blue his Freedom Ride! He's had a busy social calendar while at Frosted Faces, including our Frosted Fakers hikes and a winery outing! We're happy to announce that he has found his Forever Family! They met him at an Open House and thought for sure he'd be adopted right away. A week later they came back and he was still waiting, so they signed the dotted line! Perry is celebrating his FIRST Frostiversary! For his Frostiversary, Perry got lots of hugs and kisses from his favorite people. He is especially attached to my grandson, Eli, and myself. He received many treats on his Frostiversary. Perry is good at going potty outside during the day, but nighttime has been more challenging. It doesn't matter what time he goes outside for his last time before bed, he would still have an accident from time to time. He now wears a belly band ...at night and no more issues. He tolerates wearing it just fine. Perry loves to bask in the sun for a short while in the morning. He sleeps quite a bit but when awake, he gets a short burst of energy and gallops throughout the house. He knows how to sit, stay, and come. We are working on shaking hands. He is great on a leash too. He never pulls. Perry is good when being bathed and doesn’t have any issues with nail trimming. Perry loves kissing his favorite people. He really likes his ears rubbed and his tummy petted. Perry has been a joy to have. He gets along with the other dogs, cats, adults, and children in the home. He is so loving and sweet. We have one dog that has not always been accepting of new additions to the family. Perry made it easy for him. Perry never wanted or needed to be the alpha, and recently we found them lying side by side on the couch. The second annual Saving Senior Dogs Week is Oct 26th - Nov 1st. To donate: https://pages.donately.com//saving-senior-dogs-week-2020-3 Saving Senior Dogs Week is a national campaign to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless senior dogs (with even more need in the time of Covid-19), all across the United States. Senior dogs are least likely to be rescued or adopted. They are most at risk of being euthanized in shelters. Of the estimated 14,000 rescue groups nation...wide, less than 40 are dedicated exclusively to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing SENIOR dogs. Sophia is celebrating her THIRD Frostiversary Sophia loves pancakes and bacon so we'll start her Frostiversary off with that, then go for a walk (she loves walks), get her a puppuccino, cuddles, meatloaf for dinner, and finish the day up with love and more cuddles! Sophia is actually pretty easy for 15 years old. She lets me know if she has to go potty during the night (her bladder isn't what it used to be). Other than adding another crate, bed, and food dish we haven't had ...to do much. Sophia is a character! We love her old lady habits and daily routines. She has so much energy in the first ten minutes of waking up, after getting a bath (of which she tends to start dozing off halfway into), and after you tell her 'Let's go for a drive or walk.' Other than that, she tends to sleep a lot. She's always by my side, following me everywhere. She's super sweet and gets along great with her non-FF brother and sister. We absolutely love our sweet old lady Sophia! Her senses aren't what they used to be that's for sure. She misjudged things like circling up on the recliner and doesn't realize she's on the edge and falls right off. She gets super excited over food and will start rocking back and forth with her front paws on the edge of the couch, and falls right off. She will do her cha-cha-cha dance up on her back legs for dinner, and will dance backwards so fast she falls backwards. She's our goofball. We're always watching out for her and trying to catch her. We are blessed to have sweet Sophia, she has brought a ton of love and silliness into our family and we are looking forward to as many years she has left to bless us. We are very grateful to Frosted Faces for the opportunity to have her in our family. Poppy, formerly PopTart, came to FF from Coachella Valley in July. In her short time here, she went on the weekly Frosted Fakers hike and a winery outing! She was able to be seen at College Animal Hospital and had a swollen hock in one of her back legs, which meant she would get in plenty of her much-loved lap time with her new family! Here is an update: Poppy is the sweetest dog EVER. She became part of the family immediately! She dances for her breakfast and dinner. She... loves to give you baths with her tongue. She is forever the mooch, begging for treats. She makes us laugh when she buries herself under blankets. She loves to sunbathe and protect her territory. We truly adore this little girl and treasure every day with her. We have had to make very adjustments to her or for her. Poppy loves all food, but we have to make it into a gruel. She loves to dance and love on people. She thinks all people are made equal to love on her. I was very unsure of adopting an older dog, but Miss Poppy has so much love to share and gives us so much companionship. I would highly recommend adopting! On Saturday, October 17th, we fulfilled our promise to Jumba. Jumba spent a year and a half in the shelter at Humane Society of Imperial County. We even passed him up one time back in October 2019 when we were there to exit dogs. We rescued 22 senior dogs- but not him. That will forever torture my soul that we left this sweet boy to spend four more months kenneled as his life passed him by, before we realized we needed to rescue him. Jumba was one of those dogs at FFF who to...uched everyone. He was SUCH a good boy. You wanted all wonderful things for him and to never know pain or abandonment again. The sight of him warmed your heart, and his innocent silliness made you laugh. He was gentle and magnetizing. This winter Jumba was adopted by a caring woman named Robin Young who passed away from colon cancer in August, so Jumba came back to FFF. It took no time for him to be scooped back up by pittie lovers, Jen and Josh. Last Friday Jumba's parents noticed that he didn't want dinner and his belly was bloated. We rushed him to the ER where they discovered a lot of blood in his abdomen from a ruptured splenic mass. We opted to go in and try to save him. His spleen had two large ugly masses on it that we sent out to biopsy. It has come back as hemangiosarcoma. Jumba recovered quickly, eating and alert in the hospital after 24 hours. As the early morning hours of Saturday the 17th came upon us, Jumba coded. They did CPR and got our boy back. Just an hour later the vet called to say Jumba coded again. They did CPR again, and while they got a heartbeat back he was no longer breathing on his own, so they were breathing for him manually. While trying to get in touch with everyone in preparation for a hard goodbye, Jumba's heart did ultimately stop beating on its own. Somehow, the bestest boy did not get to live anymore. His mom writes, "I'm so grateful my family got to show him 24/7 love for even 16 days. I truly believe he wanted to be with his Mama he just lost such a short time ago. It gives me peace to know they are together forever now. Thank you all for loving him so much, we all did." We owe thanks to the volunteers who made sure Jumba never knew a day without love, and thank you to Jen and Josh for being diligent about Jumba's care so that we had an opportunity to act quickly and give him a chance at life. It wasn't in the cards, and he has left a jumba-sized hole in our hearts. Family: Jennifer Campos & Joshua Shrum Fan: Cindy Lewellen Facts: Jumba was 9 years old and was rescued from Humane Society of Imperial County on February 2nd, 2020.

Hermione was surrendered by her previous family to Baldwin Park Shelter where they noted that she seemed sick and had a heart murmur. After rescuing Hermione, we brought her to the vet and learned that she has both congestive heart failure and kidney failure. This is a deadly diagnosis. Treating heart failure includes using a diuretic to remove fluid from the lungs and heart cavity. But removing fluid is exactly the opposite thing you want to do for kidney disease, which is u...sually treated by giving subcutaneous fluids to flush the kidneys. So, the only solution for Hermione's care is to continually monitor for symptoms of both heart failure and kidney disease and treat whichever seems worse. Needless to say, Hermione is considered hospice and needs intensive care until her time is through. It takes a special person to step up in this kind of situation, and that is exactly what happened. Hermione has been chosen to live out the rest of her days with her new Forever Family! We owe thanks to Charla Hall for making a significant donation in honor of Ruby and Bella. "We have requested a $1,000 donation be made to Frosted Faces in honor of our two frosty face girls who just passed in September. We lost Ruby (our 12.5 year old Boston Terrier) just 12 hours before her cousin Bella (my brother's 12.5 year old Boxer) passed. Both of our senior girls were able to cross the rainbow bridge while we held them and told them how much we loved them. It br...eaks our hearts to know how many senior dogs don't have their families with them to comfort them in their final days - and we are very appreciative of all the work you do to help those dogs in their time of need. Nadine was surrendered to the shelter by her previous owners. She was rightfully sad, but her new Family has created a million new memories and filled her life with joy! Here's an update: "Nadine is lovely. After her scary HGE and recovery she is a wonderfully passionate lady who commands the home! Nadine loves to lead. The staff are in love with her and asked how we found such an amazing lady! Nadine and Spike are our joy, our respite, our family. Thank you Frosted Faces for finding our 'missing link'! One of the adjustments we've made is we are making our own dog food and the humans are even eating better!! Nadine loves her walks and is excellent on leash once you get it on her. She believes she is the one who should walk you. Love it! She reigns queen of the home and her brother Spike is okay with that because Nadine gives him confidence!!!
