Whoa, today’s king tide was awesome. Egrets everywherestabbing at food, greater yellowlegs flying across meadows and marshesbeautiful and exciting! California State Parks will be teaming up with the California Coastal Commission for the fourth annual virtual King Tides event on Monday, December 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Director Armando Quintero will be participating along with Annie Frankel with the California Coastal Commission. The live event on the California St...ate Parks Facebook page will provide a statewide snapshot of the natural high water occurrences along California's coast. Follow along as they visit eight state parks along the coast from San Diego to Eureka to raise awareness of sea level rise and its impacts to our coastline. You can watch live on the California State Parks Facebook page and the California State Parks PORTS Distance Learning Program Facebook page as well. #KingTides #CAStateParks #coastalcommission See more

Egret 1, black rail 0. King tides like the one we had today (and again tomorrow morning) force almost flightless rails to scurry away from the rising water. But predators, like this great egret, are waiting, and ready to strike. . Beautiful image taken today by UC Santa Cruz ornithology professor Bruce Lyons.

Okay maybe it won’t be quite this epic, but get ready for 10:10 a.m. today and 10:51 a.m. tomorrow when KING TIDES sweep across our marshes and give us a hint of what global climate change could bring to China Camp. Tides will peak at +6.82 Saturday and +7.10 Sunday. A normal high tide is 4.11 feet so it will be major this weekend!!! Enter Park from the south (McNear’s Beach) end to avoid possible driving hazards due to flooding. . Video of Maverick’s by @bigwavestour
