On Wednesday October 14, 2020, Fresno State’s Associated Students Inc. (ASI) voted in favor of the divestment resolution. This makes Fresno State the fourth California State University to pass a student government resolution that works towards divesting from companies linked to the illegal settlements in Palestine. The resolution was passed with an overwhelming majority, and only one vote against the resolution. The resolution calls for the removal of holdings from companies ...that play an active role in the human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories. As noted in the Senate meeting, there were many students who wrote public comments in support of the resolution, and shared how significant it would be to them if this resolution were to pass. The Fresno State MSA would like to thank each student who took the time to advocate for this resolution. ASI requests that Fresno State review its investments and end any potential complicity in human rights violations by divesting from the 112 companies that are linked to illegal settlements, as listed by the United Nations. The Muslim Student Association would like to thank the Associated Students government for taking a strong stance against human rights violations. The Fresno State MSA praises Fresno State ASI and student senators for their commitment to Fresno State’s students and the student’s interests. Salaam everyone. We believe it is extremely important that our local masajid participate in Islah L.A.'s day of outrage this Friday June 5th, 2020 InshaAllah. Please join us in calling on our community Islamic Centers and Masajid to speak up. As Muslims, it is critical that we use our voices against injustice. An email template has been created for community members to send over to local centers, it will be linked below. Let's make sure that our local Muslim community partic...ipates in speaking out against the oppression our black community faces in this country. Asalaamualykum (Peace be upon you) This week, an unarmed Black civilian by the name of George Floyd was unjustly murdered. Handcuffed to the ground, many of us watched our brother in humanity, struggling to mumble his last words, I Can’t Breathe. Yet another Black life taken coldly by our country’s systemic oppression. This utterly horrific event is an example of the injustice our Black brothers and sisters face daily in our country, and it needs to end.... We stand in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters, and support their rights and freedoms being of value. This injustice should not be taking place in a country that supports equality and justice for all. Those who hold authority in our system of justice need to be held accountable when measures of force are utilized including unnecessary brutality especially when it leads to death. "O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do." Quran 5:8 As brothers and sisters in humanity, and as Muslims we hold the great responsibility of standing up against oppression. As you may or may not be aware of, there are several ways for us to extend a hand or express support for the Black community. Take action by speaking out against these unjust acts of violence. - Sign petitions in support of Black Lives Matter, like this one for justice for George Floyd. https://www.change.org/p/mayor-jacob-frey-justice-for-georg - Express yourself with a statement, a drawing, something to bring attention to these unjust acts and their need to end. - Spread the word, be vocal against oppression. If you see racism happening, speak out. - Ask our Black brothers and sisters what we can do to help them and make them feel safe. - Reach out to the victims or those that may relate to the victim and let them know you are on their side. - Contact District Attorney Mike Freeman by calling # 6123485550 or emailing: [email protected] and be adamant that all officers involved in the muder of George Floyd be charged and held accountable for their part. In solidarity, Your fellow students of the Fresno State’s Muslim Student Association
