Fresno State agricultural education senior Amber Layne had a busy first year back in the Central Valley as a junior in 2019-20 after getting her associate's deg...ree from Northern Oklahoma College in agricultural science. At Fresno State, the Modesto native competed as a junior on the livestock judging team, and was a member of the Fresno State Young Cattlemen's Association & Fresno State Sigma Alpha agricultural sorority. Our first camp filled up so quick we’ve decided to offer another camp. We understand many people are very uncertain about making plans during these crazy times. Please feel free to sign up, we will not send invoices out until we have a more clear idea what the future holds.
We will be hosting a workout next Friday for those on their way to the UC Davis contest. Sheep and hog classes will be in the Animal Science Pavilion and cattle will be at the beef unit.
Day 1 of the 2020 Red Wave Classic is in the books. Congratulations to all of the exhibitors! Heifer and Hog exhibitors check-in/weigh in will end at 9 am! Showmanship for BOTH rings will begin at 9 am!
The 2020 Fresno State Livestock Judging Team has had a very busy winter break. The team not only traveled up and down California for Winter Workout but they then competed at the Arizona National Livestock Show and most recently the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Highlights from each contest are below: Arizona National Livestock Show (Phoenix, AZ) Erica Bowles: 1st in Hogs and 10th Overall... Anthony Cannon: 5th in Hogs Amber Layne: 5th Overall and 5th in Reasons National Western Stock Show (Denver, CO) 11th Team Overall 12th High Team Reasons and Cattle 8th High Team Hogs Erica Bowles: High Individual Hogs Pictures (L to R): Jonathan Moules, Elizabeth Madrigal, Erica Bowles, Amber Layne, Hannah Grossman and Anthony Cannon. Also a big thank you to our Graduate Assistant Coaches Mikaela Fringer and Tim Truax.
Tonight our swine unit employees hosted a farewell BBQ for our Senior manager, Hugo Rodriguez. He has worked at the swine unit for 4 1/2 years and is now workin...g for Sierra Nevada Farms. He is a Animal Science-Livestock Business Management major and plans to pursue a career in the swine industry. Hugo contributed a lot and made many improvements for our unit. We thank Hugo for all the hard work he has put into the swine unit, the memories we’ve made, and we are very excited for his future endeavors! See more
