Applications for the FPU Samaritan Scholarship Program for undocumented students will open next Monday, February 1st. The Samaritan scholarship is for undocumented, academically prepared, first-time freshman or transfer students who have completed their high school education in California. The Samaritan scholarship program provides leadership development, mentoring, career internship opportunities and cultural events/conferences that scholars can lead and attend. Launch Central Valley, a new program developed by the Center for Community Transformation (CCT) at Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary, offers nine sessions over as many weeks covering topics like marketing, sales, loans and how to deal with attorneys, accountants and government officials. The Fresno Pacific University community is saddened by the death of Billie Jean Wiebe, Ph.D., associate professor of communication and English and director of the communication program. Billie Jean was a favorite among students for her care and interest in their lives as well as their education, and a respected voice among the faculty. The university community has set aside a time Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 12:40-1:50 p.m. to gather virtually to remember Billie Jean and to provide an opportunity for any who wish to share memories, thoughts, or reflections. Melanie Howard, Ph.D., assistant professor and program director of biblical & theological studies, published the article Jesus’ Healing Ministry in New Perspective: Towards a Cultural Model of Disability in Anabaptist-Mennonite Hermeneutics in the Spring 2020 issue of The Conrad Grebel Review. The kinesiology program addresses concepts from a variety of disciplines and applies them to solving problems in the areas of human fitness and performance.
