The Sierra Historic Sites Association (SHSA) is launching a True Story competition in our area in an effort to collect local oral histories that deserve preserving. This will provide an activity for the large number of families sheltering-in-place during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Winners will receive $100 for the best story. Everyone is welcome to participate, but only students from grades 5-12 are eligible for an award. Preference will be given to local stories about Oakhurst and area. Read our rules in the "About" link listed on the left of this page. If you are interested in helping increase the size of our prize or if you have questions, email us at: [email protected]. Fresno Flats First Friday Lecture returns for 2020. Mark your calendars for February 7th. Topic: Fresno Flats Pioneer families up to the name change to Oakhurst in 1912.

Happy New Year to all! Our first of the year First Friday Lecture (Feb.7) will be by our own Brenda Negley on the "History of the Early Pioneers of Fresno Flats". It's always a delight hearing a lecture from Brenda who is a fifth generation Oakhurstian and has a wealth of knowledge about the history of our community. Doors open at 5:30 pm for light refreshments and early seating, and lecture starts at 6:30 pm. Parking fills up fast so plan to show up early and enjoy a visit with an old friend.
