This morning members of our office took part in the Beautify Fresno event that the City of Fresno organized. It was a great morning being able to serve our community and clean up around the Downtown Fresno area.

For the 7th year, DA Smittcamp spent some time sharing information with the Fresno State men’s basketball team. She was joined by Lt. Andre Benson and officers Ruiz and Moreno of the Fresno Police Department who are assigned to the MAGEC Unit. Pastor DJ Criner of Saint Rest Baptist Church also joined and shared his wisdom with these young men.

December 7, 2020 I have received several inquiries on the constitutionality / legality of the proposed order that Fresno City Council President Miguel Arias has indicated he is going to bring before the Council on December 8, 2020 which would prevent gatherings in private homes that involve more than 15 people. I know of no authority in California statutes or caselaw that would support this type of action, which would legally prohibit such gatherings. ... I would encourage all Fresno City Council members to research the constitutionality and legality of their proposed ordinances before they advertise them in the media or propose them as an agenda items to be voted upon. The FCDA’s Office has NOT received reports or a request for prosecution from Fresno County Sheriff's Office. When the request is received, the media will be notified. Then, when a filing decision is made, a press release will be sent out.
