West Park Elementary gave their students a Halloween Drive-Thru Costume Parade with the theme "We Say BOO to Drugs," to kick off Red Ribbon Week, with staff fully involved and costumed as well, handing out candy, work packets and meals. With many Halloween events cancelled, the school on remote learning, they wanted to give the kids a sense of normalcy amidst the pandemic, and to send out a drug-free message. Through the week, different drug-free themes are offered for example: Tues. Mustache Day (the kids were given fake mustachesI mustache you not to do drugs); Wed.- Crazy Hair Day (comb your hair in a crazy way!Use your head-don’t use drugs) and so on.

A sad face in this crisis Leaning on her empty shopping cart in the cold, Janet Ochoa, 67, waits at the head of the line for food and essentials at Vallarta Supermarkets, Clinton Ave. and freeway 99 in Fresno, at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2020, amidst the coronavisus crisis. She arrived at the store at 5 a.m., shortly joined by an estimated 300 others for a new program launched by the supermarket, allowing elderly persons (over 65), those with disabilities and pregnant women, entry to the store, at 7 a.m., before the general public. She was hoping to get basic food supplies for the four grandchildren she is raising.

I covered the Fresno Co. Academic Decathlon Super Quiz yesterday. Very cool competition between 29 area high schoolsbilled as the Super Bowl for these kids. This was a really big deal, and especially reading the faces of kids from the smaller schools, such as Reedley High’s Cielo Reynaga, center, celebrating after acing a question, reacting to the cheering crowd.

While looking for weather 'art' a couple weeks back, I stumbled upon this large colony of great egrets- with some other types of egrets and birds joining in- numbering in the hundreds, in southwest Fresno. Jennifer Wesson, curator of birds at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, described them as being very gregarious- liking their own company If you can, check out the video: https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article238626383.html
