Fresno Office of Independent Review

The OIR responded to both officer involved shootings over the weekend and was afforded the opportunity view the scene and to monitor the interviews immediately following the shootings. Investigators also allowed this office to suggest additional questions be presented to the witnesses if needed. Once the FPD Internal Affairs completes their investigations this office will conduct a thorough review of the shootings and include the OIR assessment in the quarterly report. Due to the thorough process of the IA investigation the matter may not be completed until mid to late 2021. Any questions regarding the process can be directed to this office.

We strive to be transparent as possible and hopefully the appearance before the City Council addressed questions about the review process.

On October 15, the City Council requested a workshop to better understand the functions of this office and the delay of the release of a recent report.

The Independent Reviewer will be conducting a workshop in front of City Council at 2:00 pm. Due to social distancing guidelines, resulting in limited seating in the Chamber, members of the public are encouraged to view it electronically.
