I took a few minutes yesterday o tour the new incarnation of Fremont School, E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts ("Clara"). The remodeling is still in progressm, but you can see the potential value to the community. Bittersweet feelings...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPSB_JrBbvE
Just in case you didn't see this (I can't find it here...), here's an invitation: After years of planning, hoping, and just plain hard work, the E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts is finally ready to officially open its doors! We've had a few things going on the past few weeks...but this is the real party! Drop by between 11am and 3pm to check out the space, meet our artists, and enjoy performances by several of our tenants! It's going to be a fun day -- we hope to see you there.
Today's Sacbee has an article about the E. Claire Raley Studios, Fremont School's new incarnation. It's a wonderful new life for the historic building that has such memories for those of us who once worked and studied there. http://www.sacbee.com/ent/arts-culture/article66490432.html
https://www.flickr.com//189352/in/album-72157640259113003/ Take a look at this Flickr album to see the new look of Fremont School, soon to be a center for the performing arts after substantial remodeling. We will always remember what Fremont School meant for thousands of adults, but it is good to see it will have a new life.
New versions of the flyers for the Sacramento ESL Program classes at Bethany Presbyterian, Immaculate Conception and Washington Neighborhood Center are at www.capitalesl.org . (There was a mistake about the times for Washington Neighborhood Center). Now there is a flyer in English http://capitalesl.org//Fall%20Session%20I_2013_EnglishBroc and another in Spanish http://capitalesl.org//files/Fall%20Session%20I_2013_EspaƱ (if someone could translate the flyer into Chinese, that would be great!)
Sacramento ESL program is considering offering a small computer class during the fall semester. If you are interested, e-mail them at [email protected] or call them at 916-314-3301 and tell them what times and days are best for you.
A news story with a PDF giving the times and places for Sacramento ESL is at http://capitalesl.org//sacramento-esl-program-fall-classes

Merry Christmas, Fremont friends! If we were open, we'd be sharing a meal today. Thanks for the memories! Fremont, Florin Tech, Old Marshall....It was great to share each others dishes and cultures....I hope you all have a great holiday and a wonderful New Year. take care!
If you have found an English, GED, or other class like Fremont had, please post about it here so others can get the education they are looking fr. THANKS!
It's good to read the comments from those of you who miss Fremont School Those of us who worked at Fremont, Florin Tech, and Old Marshall miss it too. I think almost everyone of us (there might be someone who would disagree...) feel that the time teaching adults at Fremont/Florin Tc/Old Marshall were the most fun and most rewarding times of our lives. It's hard to believe that schools that did so much good for so long are closed. In some ways it almst feels like someone clos...e to you has died. Will Fremont open again? I think so. When? I am not a school administrator or board member. Proposition 30 had to be passed to keep the schools from making more cuts. Sacramento City still has too many schools for its size, but it's very hard to close schools. That means SCUSD will probably be spending more money than it should for a while and it will be a loner time before the school district has the money to add adult education programs. I would say within five years, some of the programs like GED and ESL will be restored. They won't be quite like the ones we miss because they will need to be very efficient and more tied to helping people improve the skills they need for work. I am hoping five years is a pessimistic view. The money might be there earlier; the state expects budget surpluses within two years. But the reason why tere will be surpluses is because there have been so many cuts to all kinds of programs and lots of people will want their favorite programs back. When you her the schools have money again, you might put on your walking shoes and go to a board meeting. By that time, it might not be for you. Hopefully, you will have succeeded in improving your English or getting your GED or whatever it wqas you went to Fremont for. But there will always be people who need what Fremont offers, but may not be albe to speak for themselves. We need to remind the school board of what was taken awayand what needs to b returned and restored. Thanks....I'm Bruce Moon and I am proud to have been a teacher at Fremont School for Adults Florin Tech, and Old Marshall. I miss them and hope some of the programs they offered will return as soon as possible. Take care! See more
