Schaeffer's last book, "The Great Evangelical Disaster," pointed out that while the Evangelical church may be growing in numbers, it has lost it's confidence in the full inspiration and authority of the Word of God as pertaining to history, morality and the cosmos as well as to its message of salvation. Thus, it has in large part accommodated its thinking to the views of the world. This book is a must read for anyone today who is concerned for the influence the church needs to be in order to preserve the freedoms we enjoy in the West.

I have written one article for The Valley Chronicle attempting to express Schaeffer's argument that there is no alternative to the system of truth, or worldview, present in Christianity. In other words, there is only one that corresponds to the real world.

Francis Schaeffer is more relevant today than when he lived and wrote. He saw the death of truth and the resulting death of culture that was coming to the West. This death is what we are witnessing today. The only value that remains for many is power. What is needed is for believers to clearly point out the false view of truth and the implications for the individual and for society. And that there is no alternative to historic Christianity as a foundation for all of life and thought.
