Fountain Valley High School

This weekend is the second leg of Final X to determine who will fill the remaining spots for the Senior Level World Teams in Men’s and Women’s Freestyle and Men...’s Greco Roman wrestling. Here is a bit of California wrestling trivia: Fountain Valley High School in Southern California has produced three wrestlers who have gone on to compete at the Senior Freestyle or Greco Roman World Championships. FVHS alums; Gary Bohay (Class of 1978), Dan Lewis (’71), and Bob Walker (’71) all competed in the Senior Worlds. Bohay was a two-time Freestyle World Team member (1985 & 1989) for Canada. He earned a Silver Medal at the 1989 Worlds in Martigny, Switzerland. (Gary wrestled John Smith in the finals that year). Gary also finished 8th in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Walker earned a Bronze Medal in Greco at the 1979 World Championships held in San Diego CA. Bob was also on a Jr. World Team. Lewis competed at the 1981 Worlds held in Skopje, Yugoslavia. Lewis, the 1979 Pan American Games Freestyle Gold Medalist, also represented the United States in the 1979 Sambo World Championships held in Madrid Spain earning a Bronze Medal. All three are in the California Wrestling Hall of Fame and all three have been recognized a State Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Bohay in Arizona, Lewis in Colorado, Walker in Florida)
