In 2019 over 30% of households nationwide were spending 30% or more of their income on housing. A whopping 30%! Affordable housing means families have funds left over for other important necessities like healthcare and emergency expenses. @First Story

You know we couldn’t let Earth Day go by without celebrating with our residents! From distributing green Cleaning supplies and teaching kiddos how to garden to Earth Day Bingo and making edible dirt cups, it was a wonderful day for our communities! Some of our seniors received their own plants to take care of at home! They got to choose between herbs, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, and more!... Kiddos experienced the process of metamorphosis! They watched as caterpillars turned into cocoons and observed how they broke out of it as butterflies. They even released the butterflies at the end! Special thank you to Lowe's Home Improvement who donated resources to start a community garden at Harvest Glen! Residents planted vegetables that the community will get to enjoy! Did you do anything special today?

There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life. - Walt Disney

The Change Reaction has presented Organic Content LLC with a $10,000 loan to assist the company in weathering the COVID19 storm. This is the latest loan funded by the Bend Small Business Relief Fund. Allison James from Organic Content LLC had this to say, The stress and burden brought on by COVID seemed insurmountable until Change Reaction saved the day! We all could use a helping hand from time-to-time and this generous loan is exactly what I needed to continue to serve my clients and at the highest level. Truth be told, it brought me to tears. It’s nice to know that angels really do exist. I couldn’t be more grateful. https://www.ffah.org//change-reaction-loan-organic-content/

Loss of jobs and income from the COVID-19 pandemic has put many people around the country, millions by the estimate of some experts, behind on their rent payments. Thankfully, there are positive developments that will provide relief for many of these families nationwide. As covered ‘in-depth’ by an article on the Affordable Housing Finance site, Congress has passed a bill that allocates $1.4 trillion in government funding toward the relief of struggling U.S. families. Learn ...more about it here. https://www.ffah.org//massive-covid-19-relief-bill-to-hel/

A house becomes a home when residents are part of a community. What creates community? Activities, support and laughter. Happy Halloween from all of us at the Foundation for Affordable Housing and our resident services arm, Embrace.

Thank you to Maldonado Growers in Chula Vista for donating pumpkins to residents at Grace Vista Apartments to celebrate Halloween! Our residents were thrilled to receive pumpkins and had a blast during our Zoom decorating session. We even gave our prizes for the most colorful, creative, and scariest pumpkin. They look fantastic, don't you think?

Thanks to generous donations from people like you, families at one of our properties in San Diego are going to be carving the free pumpkins they received, adding some normalcy and family bonding to an unusual Halloween season.

Residents look forward to our Flu Shot Clinics every year and this year is no exception. They're all so grateful, especially the seniors who often don’t have transportation to visit a clinic or hospital. Providing on-site flu shots is just one way that Embrace, the resident services arm of FFAH, provides for our communities. A special thank you to MEDIC Pharmacy, Walgreens, Alpha Drugs, and CVS for partnering with us on these important clinics all over California.

Helping residents register to vote, fill out legal documents, get flu shots and participate in physical fitness activities are just a few of the services our Resident Service Coordinator's can be of assistance with!

Please join me in celebrating Natalie, our COVID Hero! During the pandemic, Natalie remains positive, despite some severe COVID-19 setbacks. Natalie believes in flexibility when it comes to her residents' needs. She was our first Coordinator to implement the Resident Services Program, which allows her to send messages to residents in their primary language. Simultaneously, they can respond in their native tongue, increasing our cultural competence and ability to reach more residents. Natalie currently facilitates outdoor exercise classes, gardening workshops, walking groups, and so much more! Her food distribution is booming, and she never forgets to celebrate birthdays and holidays to remind her residents that they are a priority. Natalie, we appreciate you, and your residents are so lucky to have you!
