BURN BAN IS STILL IN EFFECT! Outdoor burning will become a daily issue with the Fort Bragg Fire Department, as well as other departments throughout our county in the next month or so. Everyone needs to know that the state wide burn ban is still in effect and will continue to be in effect until the state lifts it. The time frame is unknown, but a good guess would be November 1. Every year it seems that some people in our community think that as soon as it rains they are given ...the green light to burn. This is not true and could potentially end up with citations and fines for people making that assumption. Even when the ban is lifted there are rules in place for outdoor burning. Permits have to be acquired. Depending on your location, you may have to go to Cal Fire or your local fire agency to get a permit. The other rule states that you can only burn on an Air Quality based permissive burn day. To find out if it’s a burn day, there is a recorded message through Air Quality at 707-463-4391, which is changed daily to reflect the current day’s status. As of now, this recording will say that the burn ban is in effect. There are other ways of getting burn day information. For instance, KOZT normally has burn day status on their web page. Outdoor burning is a great way to get rid of unwanted vegetation. Fire departments in most cases support outdoor burning as a way clearing vegetation in the cooler, wetter months to minimize dry or dead vegetation in the warmer, dryer months of fire season. Outdoor burning is a great tool and if not abused, will continue to be a helpful tool in preparing for the next fire season. Fort Bragg Fire will write burn permits AFTER the burn ban is lifted for anyone within the FBFD fire district. Permits are not allowed to be written ahead of time.

In a normal year, the members of the FBFD would be busy getting ready for the annual Ball and Labor Day festivities. We would also be receiving several envelopes daily with donations from a community that never ceases to amaze us with their generosity and support for the FBFD. Of course, 2020 is quite an abnormal time for all of us. We cancelled the Firemen’s Ball months ago, but as Labor Day gets closer, we thought we would remind all what the department discussed and unan...imously agreed to. The FBFD has been strongly supported by individuals and local businesses as long as we can remember. Therefore, this year we are requesting everyone who would normally be making donations, take their money and spend it on a local business. Go and buy a new shirt, pair of shoes, enjoy a great meal (even if it’s delivered or take-home) do whatever you can to help these struggling locals make it through this time of COVID. If we all work together, we will get through this and be looking forward to having a blast next Labor Day. See more

The Fort Bragg Fire Department will be bringing Santa through our town for their annual Candy Cane Run and Food Drive. Beginning Sunday afternoon (Dec 8th) around 3:00, we will be on Woodward and Mertle Streets, then headed to Cypress and South Streets. After that, we will be touring the streets east of Harold. The drive will continue Monday night at 5:00 (weather permitting) beginning at Harold and working north and south through the streets west of Harold. We try to stop a...t 9:00. Normally we can get to McPherson Street by then. Weather permitting, we will finish up on McPherson and head to Stewart, West and Glass Beach Drive on Tuesday, again, starting at 5:00. If it should rain on any of these nights we will simply bump the run up until we get a clear night. The easiest way to know if we are in your neighborhood is to listen for sirens followed by Christmas music. When you hear that come out and get a candy cane from Santa and his firefighter helpers. The food drive has been tremendously successful the past few years and we are counting on the generosity of the people of Fort Bragg to come through again for those in need! See more
