This information provided by the USFS has been since corrected. The smoke was from a 2.5 acre spot fire cause by high winds over the area. Crews have stopped the forward progress of the fire and will continue to work toward containment. There is no threat to Foresthill at this time.

Confidence remains very high for a significant wind event to impact our area. Under the forecast conditions, fire can travel many miles in a matter of hours. DO NOT WAIT to make a plan and prepare. Get your go bag together now. Place important papers, medications, and data devices together for quick packing or better yet pack them into your car now. The fewer things you need to consider the safer you will be. Take time now to move combustible items from under decks, away from the sides of your home, and into areas where if ignited they will not spread to your home. Know where you will go should you need to evacuate. For more information got to https://www.readyforwildfire.org/prepare-for-/ready-set-go/

CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER - Very High Winds A Red Flag Warniñg has been issued for high north to northeast winds and low humidity for our area. This one looks serious. Wind gust of 102 mph are forecast for the upper west slope of the Sierras including Blue Canyon. Winds in Foresthill may reach 45 mph. Under these conditions a wildland fire can travel ten or more miles in just a few hours or less. ... Prepare now. Make a plan. Stay informed. We will also be experiencing a Public Safety Power Shutdown during the same period. While this lessens the chance of fire, it complicates the ability to communicate critical information if an event occurs. Take the time now to make a plan. Know how to open your garage door without power, and move combustibles away from your home. https://www.readyforwildfire.org/prepare-for-/ready-set-go/
