SAVE THE DATE - May 11, 2021 at 6PM - Foothill Blvd in Lake View Terrace - Traffic Safety Improvement Meeting Webinar Registration HERE: https://us02web.zoom.us//register/WN_6iwDBzeyTF-j_ddunDechA OR HERE" https://bit.ly/3lTo3QE... From the offices of Eve Sinclair, Area Director for Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, 7th District: We will be holding a virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 11, at 6:00pm, so please mark your calendars. You can see the attached flyer for more details and information on how to sign up to attend. All users of the road are invited to participate, to learn about the proposed plan, and to give commentary and suggestions. In late October 2019, there was a tragic collision that killed two horses and severely injured their riders as they rode along Foothill Blvd. - one of the City's official equestrian trails - through Lake View Terrace back to their stable. That November, the Councilwoman put through a motion directing various City departments to both improve existing safety conditions along Foothill Blvd. between Osborne and Wentworth, and to look forward to creating a future, contiguous bridle path so that riders can move safely while off of the street itself. For your reference, here is a link to that motion, which was then approved by the City Council in February: https://cityclerk.lacity.org/lacityclerkconnect/index.cfm Our office worked closely last year with the Bureau of Street Lighting to upgrade all of the existing street lights to higher-intensity LED lights, in order to improve the visibility of equestrians, cyclists, pedestrians, and other users of the road. The Bureau of Street Lighting also worked with the LADWP to upgrade eighteen cobra-head light fixtures on DWP poles along this corridor as well. We have also been working closely with the LA Department of Transportation to review conditions along this section of road - Foothill Blvd, between Osborne and Wentworth - and to design traffic safety improvements. In February 2020, we held a well-attended community meeting to get input from community members on how to best increase safety in this area, and now the draft of the proposed plan has been completed, so we would like to move forward with sharing this plan out with the community again. In March of this year, we were very saddened to learn that there was another crash on Foothill Blvd near the Wheatland intersection, a head-on collision during the rains, which resulted in two fatalities and three severe injuries. We are looking forward to implementing changes that will help to increase safety along this road and to reduce speeds, and hope that you can participate in this process to make Foothill Blvd. safer in this area for all users.

From the office of Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, 7th District: Per LA County Public Health: "Looking at the data on breakthrough infections after vaccination that the CDC released last week, the risk of infection in people who are fully vaccinated was 1 in 13,275 much less common than 1 in 10 infected with COVID-19 who were not vaccinated. And the risk of death goes from 1 in 500 to 1 in a million." We are happy to offer a mobile vaccine clinic that brings vaccinations ri...ght here into the district, easing access for those that may not have internet access to sign up online or transportation to get to far-away vaccine sites. We are currently taking FIRST DOSE appointments for our mobile vaccination clinic, which will be in Sunland-Tujunga again this coming week. As of next Tuesday, anyone with an appointment at one of our pop-up vaccine sites in Council District 7 will receive a Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which only requires one dose. These pop-up locations are walk-up, not drive-thru, and will provide FREE vaccines by appointment, regardless of immigration status. Anyone over the age of 16 is now eligible to receive a vaccination. Please see the attached flyers for more information. If you have any questions or would like to get scheduled right away, please contact our Sylmar District Office at (818) 756-8409, Pacoima District Office at (818) 485-0600, or Sunland-Tujunga District Office at (818) 352-3287 to make an appointment for your vaccine. https://carbonhealth.com/covid-19-vaccines/los-angeles

PREPARING FOR MOSQUITO SEASON Living with mosquitos is a common occurrence in the Valley. As the weather warms up, more bugs come out. Mosquitos in our area can test positive for West Nile Virus, which is primarily transmitted between birds that have the illness. If a mosquito infected with West Nile Virus bites you, it can make you very sick. While people who get West Nile Virus cannot transmit it to others, it is important to do what you can to prevent infection. According... to the Greater L.A. County Vector Control District, the best method to prevent mosquitos from breeding on your property is to limit the number of potential sources. Inspect around and inside your home, and if you find standing water, remove the source. Be sure to check weekly for standing water to prevent more mosquitos breeding - especially if it after rains. You can learn more by visiting the Greater L.A. County Vector Control District website at https://www.glacvcd.org/resources/diy-mosquito-solutions/ Sign up for regular updates so that you know what to do if West Nile comes to your neighborhood.
