When the dog that has it all is STILL looking for a home, you have to wonder why... Piper is the ultimate pup! She is great with all people - men, women, children. She loves, LOVES other dogs and does well with cats too! She is sweet, loving, little. She would love to be both your adventure buddy and your snuggle bug. She is young, polite and obviously so cute! ... The last thing she’s working on mastering is potty training, but she’s trying really hard and doesn’t have accidents in her crate at night. We are looking for a home with other dogs, because she loves them so much and they can play the day away. Could you give this doll baby a home forever and ever? She has never met a stranger and would love to meet you! Apply to adopt her @ foothilldogrescue.org

Some dogs take extra tender loving care to change their stars and because of our amazing fosters and donors, FDR can provide some with just what they need Dallas was one of 24 dogs we rescued from a remote area in Texas back in October. She came from a stray/hoarding situation where people had dumped their dogs on a dead end road and a local resident became overwhelmed with feeding several stray dogs on their property. Dallas was the most shy and fearful of the dogs we b...rought back, so she went straight into a foster home to decompress on her own schedule. We discovered she was extremely shy and fearful of all noises inside and outside the house, so we determined she had not been socialized with a family and possibly was dumped at a very young age. She battled intestinal parasite issues for a few weeks and had not been eating well based on her overall health and weight. It took her a few months to start interacting with her foster family and the resident dog, so every little improvement was a milestone and celebration with this girl. She preferred to play late at night and hibernate during the day, although she started to enjoy walks more and more with each outing. After 4 months, we felt it would be best to move her to another foster home with a smaller backyard, since she still appeared very fearful in a large, open yard. She would also be exposed to calm children and a young, playful dog. Several daily outings were added to her calendar and we were pleasantly surprised that Dallas slowly started to become more outgoing during the daytime and at times, behaving like a puppy! Her journey is not over as she still has some insecurities, but we are happy to report she is not going to experience another move. Her new foster family fell in love with this diamond in the ruff and decided to welcome her permanently into their home. From hiding in an outdoor doghouse in Texas to living the life with a loving family in Northern California - thanks to rescue, Dallas was able to change her stars. Enjoy a quick view into her first chapter of a new life thanks to Foothill Dog Rescue. Please consider donating to FDR on the BDOG, so we can continue to help other pups that need extra time - due to lack of confidence, fear of the world or medical recovery. Every dollar helps us continue saving more lives. #BDOG #BDOG2021 bigdayofgiving.org/Foothilldogrescue - you can donate now towards the BDOG or come and see us on May 6th to drop off your donation!

Wednesday Write-up: Owner Surrender, The Sheena (Chili) Story The term "Owner Surrender" is a blanket term that covers a variety of situations. Dog owners reach out to us when they are no longer able to care for their animals. It can be because of financial hardship, relocation, lifestyle change, new infants with allergies or new roommates not keen on a big, shedding ball of slobbering Lab that takes up the entire couch. This is the story of one such loveable lab.... Sheena (Chili) came to us one Saturday in June. With a new roommate, a smaller apartment and working full time, her owner knew she could no longer give Chili the attention that she needed. She told us the dog loved the water and that she was seven years old (she was also 30 lbs. overweight.) With an available foster, we were able to take this beautiful senior dog into our system. Little did we know "loved the water" was an understatement! This dog was, and is, part otter. She spent most of the summer swimming in Folsom Lake never wanting to get out to go home. Try to water the lawn? Not without a flash of black fur flying across the grass, jumping up to play in the stream. She wound up a permanent adoption when the foster couldn't part with her. Soon they noticed that she wasn't able to sit down on her right side without a bit of a struggle. She also had trouble squatting and jumping into the car. After a vet visit with x-rays, it was discovered that she had a previous break that had long since healed and her right hip was fused into the socket. She also had a lot of arthritis in both the right hip and left knee. First order of business-doggie diet. Chili went on a strict diet of reduce calorie dog food with supplemental frozen green beans. She now weighs a slim, 63 lbs!! She is spry, happy and able to manage so much more. We know she will slow down sooner that other dogs her age but she is making the most of life. She loves going on walks and taking up the entire couch and has a snoring pattern any bearded man would envy. No dog is perfect but all dogs are perfect to us. See more

We would like to give a shout out to this wonderful young girl Alexa. This young girl designed and made beautiful blankets to sell to raise funds for our organization. Alexa dropped off a check from all the proceeds of her blankets, some blankets and donated some other goodies to FDR. Thank you Alexa, you have such a huge heart!

Our organization would like to thank everyone involved with helping us save 24 dogs that traveled all the way from Texas to Shingle Springs last weekend. The wonderful transporters arrived safely with our newest members of the rescue and within five hours they were all bathed/groomed, vetted and sent to their 24 awesome foster homes to get some much needed decompression time. Some are very shy and skittish, while others are already enjoying a nice brisk walk. The dogs with se...vere medical needs are going in for surgery and/or veterinary evaluations early this week and all are on the schedule for altering if needed which is most of them. Thank you so much to the donors and for those who shared our post too it all helps. Most of all, we couldn’t do this without the volunteers involved behind the scenes and during intake, including bathers, groomers, crate cleaners, those administering the necessary vaccines and preparing the supplies, vet appointment scheduler, foster coordinator, evaluators and our awesome fosters that were so patient during the new pickup process partly due to the current COVID related precautions. Here are a few sneak previews and some of our fosters meeting their new house guest at pickup time Sunday.

Our organization was recently asked to assist with some dogs needing rescue in Texas. Normally we try to help dogs with in our area and the Central Valley, but these dogs needed rescue just as much as any other dog in our state right now, if not more. Canton, Texas is a very rural area with no Animal Control. The only veterinarian in town cares for the city dogs and the rural county dogs are pretty much on their own. Well, we have a rescue connection in Texas who reached out ...Continue reading
