Exercise not only benefits your muscle health and your cardiovascular fitness, but also sleep health. This article provides a great overview of how exercise has physiological and mental benefits to help us sleep. If you find yourself struggling to maintain an exercise routine or wondering what exercises are safe to do during flareups of chronic issues, please give our clinic a call.

As a balance and vestibular specialist, I often get asked by patients and their family members how to prevent falls. While I have to consider and treat ankle/foot mobility, any lower limb pain issues, leg strength, and weakness in vision or vestibular function, footwear is a sometimes the easiest and quickest way to help a patient. As the article in VEDA mentions, we still need to be aware of how a patient walks and the surface they are walking on, but it is a nice summary of footwear goals for those who are concerned about their balance or a loved one's balance. - Brigit Lim, MPT

We at Folsom Physical Therapy believe that it is important to #PracticeWhatYouPreach! While we always strive to champion health and wellness for our patients at FPT, we also believe in supporting our own health wellness outside of work. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing how our staff practices what they preach beyond the walls of the clinic. If you want to share how you #practicewhatyoupreach and invest in your health and wellness outside of the clinic, please tag us in your post!

It’s time to rally and make some noise on Capitol Hill against proposed cuts to physical therapy services! The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ proposed 2021 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule includes deep cuts in payment to over 35 health care providers. Physical therapy services are slated for a 9% cut. If this cut becomes reality, it will devastate patient access to care and will shutter countless small businesses. CMS is ignoring the concerns expressed by patients, multiple health care groups, and some members of Congress about these proposed cuts so it’s time for Congress to intervene! Click the link to let your congress people know that you're not on board. #fightthecut https://www.apta.org//iss/medicare-physician-fee-schedule

Goal: Sustainability for Folsom Physical Therapy Even prior to the COVID crisis, private practice health care providers faced business headwinds that challenged their sustainability. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks? While it may be true for dogs we know it’s not true for humans! Humans have the ability to acquire new skills throughout the lifespan. Emerging science is showing that intentional practices like meditation, breathing exercises, as well as running, walking or biking outdoors can alter human autonomic responses. Start with action and your brain will follow! At FPT our goals are your goals. We are committed to helping you turn goals into action. Head on over to @hubermanlabs for some great, short videos on neuroplasticity and ways to help make your brain function optimally!
