February 1 marks the beginning of Black History Month. That is why we wanted to make our today’s Talented Monday different and meaningful. Today we want to highlight Amanda S. C. Gorman, a young poet and activist, who captivated the country with her Inauguration Day poem at the swearing-in of President Joe Biden. She gave a powerful reading of her poem The Hill We Climb. The poem reflects on the troubles of the past several years nationwide protests calling for racial jus...tice, a devastating global pandemic, political division but punctuates the importance of moving forward as a unified country. https://youtu.be/Jp9pyMqnBzk Gorman, 22, became the youngest inaugural poet in United States history. While at Harvard, she also became the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate in April 2017. What's next for the young poetry sensation? You can learn more about her from her own words from this interview on TODAY. You can also follow the link to Amanda Gorman’s official webpage: https://www.theamandagorman.com/ We all have talents. How we use them, that’s what matters. We ask you to share with us videos and pictures of YOUR TALENTED CHILDREN. Our FB page may become their first stage, their first step towards success. Please email your videos and pictures to [email protected].

Madelaine, Parent Leader, is back with new Wednesday Parent Tip. What is your favorite Holiday tradition???The Christmas and Holiday season is one that can just bring so much joy all around. It is also one that for many they might feel a little bit left out as they never had any family traditions growing up and just feel like they just continue to miss out on this aspect. The wonderful thing about traditions is that you can create your own traditions right now! I have enj...oyed creating a few family traditions with my husband and children and you can do to the same! I just want to share a few ideas today! Create your own hot cocoa station in your home. This is probably one of our twin girls favorite during this season. Always have out a few mugs, some hot cocoa mix or mixes, a few flavored syrups and any other toppings you would like for your hot cocoa station in your home. Have this yummy warm drink any time you would like! We always just bring down a few more mugs each time a few have been used. It's something that when I think about it, it's truly so simple but brings such a warmth in our home to the Christmas season! If you put up a Christmas tree in your home like we do, one of my favorites is having our children help to decorate the tree! From our oldest right on down to our youngest it is just fine watching them choose where they want to place the ornaments. With that said, another tradition you can do in your own home is making a few new ornaments each year! It doesn't have to be expensive at all. You can often times find inexpensive wooden shaped ornaments and many craft stores in which you take home and then can decorate! Kids love doing this too! Another one is snuggling together with blankets when it's rainy weather and sitting outside (where you won't get rained on) to have a read aloud with my children and we usually have some hot cocoa to go with from our hot cocoa station. This is one of my favorites! Checking out the Christmas lights around our neighborhood and going to see the live Nativities! Also enjoy this too! Serving together as a family. Service is something we can do no matter what our budget looks like. If you need ideas this website is great. Go check out justserve.org and there are many local service ideas on there or you can come up with your own idea. This year my family and I wanted to go 3 local teachers and and help to bring some Christmas and Holiday cheer to their students. We did this by getting a few donations and us donating some items for gifts that they then we're delivering to their students. We had family and friends involved in this and I truly enjoyed doing that this year! Watching Christmas movies together. This is another one of our favorites!
