MARCH 23RD OPEN CONVERSATION WITH VIA INTERNATIONAL Do you want to follow up on something you heard from one of this month's guests? Do you want to ask somethin...g you've always been meaning to ask about Via International or the Via Cafe? Or maybe you just want to learn what's happening on the border - like the impacts on the ground in Tijuana from the Biden Administration's closing down the Trump Administration's "Remain in Mexico" policy for migrants seeking asylum in the United States? Everything will be on the table tomorrow as we open things up for conversation with the remarkable group of people who have been assembling in our Via Cafe ZOOM room on Tuesdays. I'm reminded of the Spanish expression, "tomar la palabra." It literally means "to take the word," but more practically it means to "speak out" or to "speak up." Sign up at for your free ticket. https://viacafe.org/pages/via-voices See more

Below you can read the response to our friend, USN Captain Ed, received from Rep. Mike Levin 49th Dist-Ca in regards to his signed petition in support of H.R. 8...585 American Right To Family Act. Please sign the Petition time to correct the broken Immigration system that has separated so many US citizen children from their parents, as well as deported US Military Veterans that were willing to give their life to defend the constitution of the US. Please sign, share and support Petition in support H.R.8585..... October 28, 2020 Dear Mr. XXXXX, Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for protecting our most vulnerable immigrant communities. I agree that programs such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are essential to providing immigrants adequate opportunities to work, study, and contribute to our incredibly diverse country. In 2012, President Obama created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which required young people who were brought to the United States as children through no fault of their own to submit applications to immigration authorities to receive a work permit and protection from deportation. However, President Trump upended the lives of hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients when he canceled the program in September 2017. These young people know no other home than the United States, but they are now in danger of losing their jobs and being deported. As the grandson of Mexican immigrants who came to America with the dream of a better future for their children, I am proud to join my colleagues in working to protect that dream. In March 2019, I joined my colleagues in introducing the Dream and Promise Act to provide a pathway to citizenship for eligible Dreamers and to secure permanent residency for those with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status. For centuries, immigrants have made our country greater and more prosperous. We should welcome them and treat them with dignity instead of shutting them out like this president has tried to do. I know that the Southern California communities I represent are stronger because of the DACA recipients and other immigrants who call them home, and I will continue to do everything I can to support them. Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me on this or any other issue of importance to you in the future. You can reach my Washington, D.C., office at 202-225-3906 and you can sign up for my newsletter on my website Sincerely, Mike Levin Member of Congress https://veteransforpeace.salsalabs.org/righttofamily
