This happened last week, and I'm proud of my team. I have a client who came in because he got a contract from an overseas company dealing with a technology transfer. We were able to sit down together and discuss everything that I need to know about the transaction. In addition to the transaction's standard terms, like price, quantity, and what each party agreed on, I drilled a bit deeper to a more personal level: What is his current situation? What does he want to achieve? ...Why are they essential for him to accomplish those goals? What happened? If he doesn't reach the goal or the desired outcome for this particular transaction, why would it happen? It didn't happen the way that he envisioned. As a result of this long conversation with my client, we were able to put together a custom agreement for him. On top of that, he now has peace of mind and can focus on closing the deal and preparing his business for this opportunity because he knows he has done whatever he can to minimize the risk.
