We would like you to join us in wishing Dr. Arellano the most wonderful of 50th birthdays! He has had an incredibly challenging end of his 49th year. But there is great promise for the future as his recovery continues and we look to an exciting new era for Focal Point Optometry.

We are sad to announce our fearless leader, Dr. Alvin Arellano had a rather serious car accident two weeks ago. Thankfully, he is expected to make a full recovery and surgery was not necessary, but we will be without Dr. A's positive, warm presence for a few more weeks while he builds up his strength during his recovery. If you wish to send him any cards, or notes, you can send to our office at 1909 W Malvern Ave, Fullerton CA 92833 and we will make sure he gets them.

We are very excited to introduce the newest associate doctor to our practice! Dr. Thu Ai Phan was born and raised in Orange County, CA before moving south to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in General Biology with a minor in Cognitive Science from UC San Diego. She was fitted for contact lenses during her 4th year in college and was amazed with the freedom that the contact lenses provided. That experience inspired her to become an optometrist. After graduating, she worke...d with a non-profit mobile eye clinic to provide free eye care to underserved preschoolers and later as an optician in a private practice before moving to Chicago to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Phan completed her training in full scope family practice as well as specialty training at the Illinois Eye Institute, the Cornea and Contact Lens Institute of Minnesota, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Phan is passionate about helping patients achieve their fullest visual potential. She completed vision therapy to correct her poor eye alignment and is currently using orthokeratology overnight contact lenses to be free of glasses and contacts during the day. Dr. Phan enjoys myopia management, fitting specialty contact lenses for patients with keratoconus and dry eyes, and is passionate about early binocular vision intervention and vision therapy. Outside of the office, Dr. Phan enjoys yoga, craft breweries, and game night with friends and family.

To keep safe & healthy, we're constantly washing our hands. But what about our smartphones? Studies have shown that these devices can be carriers for viruses, bacteria, & even fungi! Check with your phone manufacturer for cleaning instructions. If your hands are contaminated & you’ve been using your phone, chances are... it’s contaminated too!

Too much screen time for your kids? Mom Maya's solution: recreate her daughter's favorite game outdoors. Too much time indoors and on screens is linked to higher myopia (blurry distance vision) in kids. Fortunately we now have treatments for childhood myopia. Whether your child is going to be learning at home or in school, don’t forget to add an eye exam to their back-to-school checklist. Learning usually involves reading, writing, computer work & even physical education all of which require great vision. If your child is having trouble seeing clearly, he or she may feel tired & struggle to maintain focus. Here are 4 signs your child may have undetected vision problems:
