My play, Perfect, is in a workshop at the UC Davis Catalyst 2020 New Works Festival. There will be one (virtual) reading on Wednesday, February 17, at 6:00PM PS...T. This live-only event is focussed on developing the text - a great cast of student actors reading over zoom with minimal tech or rehearsal. In May, PlayGround will present a much more fully produced production that will also be recorded for more flexible viewing. FMP 20th anniversary!
April is Autism Awareness month. Siri, the subject of our documentary, is on the cover of Autism Parenting Magazine. Since we are locked down and unable to sho...ot video, I am working my way through what we have already shot and will be releasing some short snippets soon. https://apmagpdf.s3.amazonaws.com/Issue_101_April_2020_web_ #mynameissiri #designsbysiri #bluebracelet #autismspeaks #autismsocietyofamerica #autismparenringmagazine #siri #autism #autismawareness #documentary #inspirationalstory #puzzlepieceathletics
Terry Teachout in the Wall Street Journal on our video work capturing ACT's production of Toni Stone: "The real miracle of this webcast, though, is the camerawo...rk. Whenever you watch a sitcom filmed or taped in front of a live audience, you’re seeing a performance shot with three cameras, normally considered the minimum number necessary to produce a watchable program. Not so Toni Stone: The company had only two at its disposal. I didn’t know that until after I watched the webcast, edited by Beryl Baker, A.C.T.’s video content producer, and save for a few forgivable bobbles, the camerawork was so smooth and varied that I simply took it for granted that the show was shot with three cameras. Theater companies that are worried about the technical problems of capturing a live performance, as well as the resulting expense of shooting with three cameras, should thus take a close look at Toni Stone. They’ll be encouragedand inspired." (Photo by Kevin Berne)
Update on our documentary, My Name is Siri Despite being locked down in our houses, work continues on the My Name is Siri documentary film. We completed extensi...ve interviews with Swathi and Uli, Siri's parents, and I am working my way through the transcripts. I am delighted by their thought provoking honesty of and it will be a great effort to narrow down so many wonderful moments into the final film. The pandemic has put a stop to our shooting. There are still a half dozen interviews and a lot of "B-roll" shots on location that had to be cancelled. When the shelter in place lifts, we will resume shooting. Meanwhile, Siri continues to add new activities to her busy schedule. Until the virus hit, she was working at Goodwill, dancing, boxing, and ice skating. Our story will trace how these activities all grew out of the her enhanced engagement with the world, rooted in the discover of her interest in jewelry design. I have including some iPhone footage of Siri boxing. It was shot by Swathi. Although it is not an example of the high level of cinematography we will use in the film, i believe that "content is king" and by far more important than technology. We will shoot Siri boxing with our professional cameras when we are able to. Meanwhile, here is a very short clip showing Siri doing something she could not have dreamed of only a few years ago. #mynameissiri #designsbysiri #bluebracelet #autismspeaks #autismsocietyofamerica #autismparenringmagazine #siri #autism #autismawareness #documentary #inspirationalstory #puzzlepieceathletics
