I would also add that at any given time in pregnancy and in labor that the remaining blood that is in the placenta is being re-oxygenated and collecting nutrients to deliver back to baby. For this reason it is vital for the cord to continue to pulse for as long as possible. When all of the blood has been delivered to baby, you will notice a flimsy, white cord instead of the dark, kinky cord that was present before. If someone tells you 3-5 minutes, ask them why they said a specific number. Every cord drains at a different speed...there is no time requirement!
