We are so happy to share Christy's presentation at the International Transpersonal Conference in Prague. Many of you have probably met Christy at Float Clinic and had the opportunity to share your experiences with her for insight. Having her on our team inspires us everyday. She believes we have a lot of work to do on the psyche. Her presentation is to understand and interpret non-ordinary states of consciousness including numinous, perinatal, out-of-body, hypnagogic, and ot...her transpersonal phenomena associated with flotation-REST. Jung would agree that in today's world, the most difficult task is to become conscious of the contents that arise out of the unconscious. Christy holds her Master’s Degree in Depth Psychology, Jungian and Archetypal Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is presently completing her Ph.D. with a doctoral thesis that brings a depth psychological lens to the numerous experiences of floating (REST). We're excited to be attending the 3rd annual Float Conference this year August 9th and 10th 2014 http://floatconference.com/ . During the 1st Float Conference in 2012, one of the speakers shared a story which we would like to share with you all. About 20 years ago, a young woman (the speaker, now in her 50's) found herself pregnant and in a difficult situation. She was planning on having her baby, however, the man with whom she became pregnant decided he did not want to have... a child. Her life was thrown into a tailspin and she was about to have an abortion. Before moving forward with the procedure, she happened to stumble upon Spa Ovarium (Float Center in Montreal Canada which been is business for 30 years). She desperately wanted to reduce her stress, so she floated. Something powerful happened to her when she was floating. In that quiet space, void of distractions and stimuli, she slowed down in a way she did not think was possible. In that slowness or nothingness, something stirred in her. Although she was newly pregnant, she experienced something hard to describe. She said she sensed a connection with the baby developing in her. In that moment, the connection was palpable. In that moment, this woman made a pact with the unborn child. She said, We’re in this together. She decided to keep her baby. Twenty years or so later, there they were: mother and daughter. Bernard, the owner, did not know about that story.The woman and her daughter were so grateful to him. At the conference, when she told the story to me and everyone else, the room was silent. It was as though everyone in the room sensed the connection the woman felt to her unborn child decades earlier. We also felt the deep obligation we all have to provide floating to the world. Our primary goal at Float Clinic is to make floatation therapy a treatment covered by health insurance. With enough studies showing positive feedback, this can be accomplished.
