In the space I designed, I’m trying to show a sleekness and artful approach to a standard living room inspired by the artwork Maryam Moeeni’s Waves of Illusion. I was conveyed by the movement and colors in this piece of art and allowed that theme to exist throughout the space. This put my focus on the cool blues, greys, white and black color scheme while adding a foundation of warmth appearing in the wood accents. The theme of movement is represented by the ripple and swirls ...of the legs on the Alfonso Marina Etrusca console, the Swaim screen and the Emerson ebony martini tables. A concept of movement is also carried through the human body motif, shown in the art and sculpture, validating that our bodies can take many shapes and forms and are always in movement. The room is mostly monochromatic so I wanted to bring an interest and drama to certain focal points by the use of different textures. There is a mixture of shagreen, fabric, iron, marble, glass, wood, ceramic and rattan reed, which all provide layers and varieties of soft, coarse, smooth, ribbed and lustrous textures. The overall atmosphere creates an almost perfect space in which to cool down and unwind, while appreciating the escape of modern art.
