Here at FLAX, we stand with the movement for black lives. We are in solidarity with the campaign against anti-blackness on a national scale, and in our community, Oakland and San Francisco deserve better. We are inspired by the commitment of those marching for justice, the artists who have dedicated their l...ives to examining these issues, and the children who are discovering their voice. As a Bay Area small business that has supported local artists and changemakers for 82 years, we are mindful of our privilege. We have donated art and sign making supplies to a local non-profit working with BLM volunteers to give our neighbors a means for expression. And we intend to continue to amplify black artists, strengthen our ties to the community in support of the next generation of black artists, and contribute to the ongoing fight against racial injustice. Because Black Lives Matter.

If you haven't heard about this fund, here are the facts!

Yesterday we received this mighty bundle of markers, paint, brushes, canvas and all manner of art supplies, and were preparing to continue the shopping by appointment system. Unfortunately, but for everyones health and safety, FLAX is no longer considered essential due to the March 31 updated order from the Public Health Dept. We are fortunate to serve such a supportive community of creatives and will do what we can to continue to enable and inspire. We will keep you all updated as to when we can safely reopen and in the meantime, create in place!
