Of importance to all of us living in California, particularly in the High Desert, as our state's aquifers are being depleted to the profit of one large company and we get nothing in return. I have followed this for years, and to my distress it's not been resolved. https://www.ecowatch.com/california-nestle-water-public-lan

I love blooming plants, and whereas my husband, Tony, only grows food plants year-round, I just care about being surrounded by beauty. To add to the lovely Flamingo Heights area, I've spent the last 7 years "greening" my property. With native plants as much as possible of course, but, my back yards are my personal refuge, and I indulge in planting multiples of whatever can grow in the narrow, shallow beds around the block walls. I was surprised to find that one of the easiest... plants to grow here and propagate is Aloe Vera, as it was also abundant in our terrace in Puerto Rico, which is tropical and very wet. I bought the first plant 6 years ago, and from that one I now have 6. They're so easy to propagate - I did what my mother did with all succulents: cut a piece of a stem, stick it in wet soil and keep it wet in the semi-shade until you see signs of life. Now I have 5 thriving plants and they're all blooming at once! Very cool! What are you growing at home? See more

Thanks to the steady pace of vaccinations and the immunity of people who already have had the disease, California’s rate of 33 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people yesterday morning was less than a third of the U.S. average. The CDC says the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines reduce COVID-19 hospitalization risk by 94% among older adults. Dr. Anthony Fauci says more liberal CDC coronavirus guidelines could come soon. An at-home COVID-19 test has arrived in the Bay Area. San Mateo County is reopening a drive-through mass vaccination site starting Thursday. We’re coming for you: For Bay Area public health officials, it’s been a year of threats and menace.

Friends and members of the FHCA, let me tell you a little about this story. Heiley Landingham is an 8 year old from Banning who's fascinated by Flamingos. Part of this costume was for he ice scatting recital, cancelled bc of the Big C this year. So her mother repurposed it to a Halloween costume. She reached out the our association this week asking if we had anything flamingo we could send as her Halloween treat. I sent her a flamingo umbrella hat since a friend had given us 3 this weekend. Mom is asking for votes (they're not on FB but the fire department they're working on benefits with is). Please vote for her? Thanks

It is with regret that the Flamingo Heights Community Association announces the loss of one of our members, Betty Butler (1939-2020), on October 6th. A resident of Flamingo Heights for 50 years and widow of Doc Butler . She is survived by her brother Don Snook and many nieces and nephews. She was a skilled quilter, and talented photographer, taking many photographs, including of the Landers earthquake. Betty attended Living Waters Bible College then worked in Cibecue, Arizona as a teacher and Missionary for 15 years. During that time, she also did carpentry, helping to build the Church building in Cibecue. In Flamingo Heights, she spent 20 years in the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Watch. Our condolences go to her surviving family and her close friends. A private service will be planned by her family.

DEXTER WAS FOUND and his owners picked him up this morning. I'm not sure if this is a lost dog or a homeless dog. It's clean, in good weight and has been coming around for a few days now. My husband has give it water, today he gave him food and clearly he was hungry as he cleaned the bowl. He wears a good leather harness. We already have 3 small dogs, have not determined if it gets along with other dogs and can't keep him. If you know this dog please claim it and take it home. 558 Tahoe Avenue FH or call me at 760-364-3640.

If only people were smarter, listened and followed advice, this would have been avoided.
