#raw #nuts are definitely one of my everyday #snack staples. I don’t know if it’s the cooling down of the desert (yayyy it’s only 103 now ) and the ushering in of our delicious fall weather but right now I’m really into those #pecans. #nuts #healthyfats #survivalfood #healthyfood #healthysnack #plantbased #ketofriendly #veganketo #almonds #cashews #pecans #walnuts #pumpkinseeds

You know, over the years I have heard a lot of differing opinions about when is the best time to workout. And I feel strongly that there is no one size fits all answer to this. Especially when it comes to the general public, meaning non-competitors/athletes. The best time to #workout, when your trying to make #exercise a regular part of your life, the best time to work out is when you are able and willing. For a long time I would try to push myself to be one of the people at... the gym at 5am, get my workout in for the day and then not have to worry about it but my body feels most comfortable and ready for a workout between 10am-2pm. If I felt the way I do at 10 am, at 5am, we’ll that would be great! But unfortunately, waking up that early and jumping straight into challenging my body sucks so bad! One of the most important principles you learn when you are studying to be a personal trainer is the #principleofindividuality and basically this principle is the overlying theme when you approach teaching fitness. It states that each person has individual abilities and needs which trump any generalization. It took me some time to really examine myself and figure out why can’t I just get up and go. Over the years I have come to acknowledge in myself that I like to ease into my morning. That’s how I feel best. I like to wake up slowly, sit outside and drink my espresso and just slowly ease in. THEEeeeeEEeeennnn, I’m more willing to do some #physicalactivity and get things going. So, in examining myself , I was able to recognize that it’s not necessarily the waking up that sucks, but it’s the waking up and going right away that doesn’t feel right on my body. I have a job that takes up most daytime hours (some days it’s between 8am-5:30 and some days it’s 8am-8pm) so I really only have two windows of time to get my workout in either in the early morning before work or after work in the evening when the gym is packed with a million people with the same time constraints as me. Both times have pros and cons. So it’s all about choices and making it work because it’s a priority. Lately I’ve been trying to wake up at 5am, have my coffee for 30 minutes and then do some gentle wake up yoga and then meditate and I have really been enjoying that. Today Justin, (my fiancé) pushed me to come to the gym with him for a back/shoulder workout. I reluctantly agreed but I’m so glad I did because look at this gorgeous sunrise! . . . So moral of the story: 1. Figure out when your body is most willing to workout. 2. Figure out when your schedule can allow a workout. 3. Figure out a way to combine the two. 4. Make a choice and take action. 5. Keep trying new things to figure out what’s best for you. 6. Enjoy beautiful sunrises. See more

I’m on Day 2 of the #MasterCleanse. Here are my thoughts regarding this cleanse: 1. As a health professional, I do not recommend doing a cleanse like this or any temporary diet strictly for #weightloss (as it is usually not a long term weight loss solution and has potential risks for some) and I do not recommend it for just anyone. If you are considering doing a cleanse which involves fasting of any kind or major calorie restriction, make sure you get the ok from doctor (dia...betics especially, I’m looking at you!). . 2. The current research available suggests that a cleanse such as the Master Cleanse is not necessary for the purposes of detoxing the body. Research suggests that all you need to do in order to have this detoxing effect is to adapt a more #balanced #wholefoodsplantbased #diet for the long term. . 3. So why am I doing this cleanse? I like to do a cleanse on occasion for more mental/spiritual reasons. For me, it is a way of interrupting or resetting my food psyche especially if I have been engaging in some less desirable dietary behaviors such as various #foodaddiction. For me, coffee/caffeine is probably my worst dietary behavior (at least 2 shots of espresso per day). Doing the cleanse gives me the opportunity to take a break from caffeine or any other food I’m indulging a bit too much in (this time it’s sugar and carbs). While I am cleansing, I’m able to observe my food cravings and experience the clear distinction between being hungry and just craving the taste of certain foods. It’s also nice to take a break from thinking about or cooking food. Also during this time, I allow myself to slow down and take a break, take it easy on my body and let it rest. . . I’d love to hear about your experience or thoughts on doing a cleanse or fast below in the comments! . . #cleanse #themastercleanse #naturalcures #cleansethebody #cleansethemind #healthebody #healthemind #fasting #healthy #balance See more
