This page is owned and maintained by The Geraldi Family, founding family and proprietors of no.9 Fishermen's Grotto for 81 years (1935-2016). It is a place to share memories from the legions of San Franciscans and travelers worldwide who enjoyed Fisherman's Wharf's first sit-down restaurant during those years.

Nino’s Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren were out in Santa Cruz for the Clam Chowder Cook-off this afternoon. Team Nine Little Fishermen were definitely a fan favorite.

We had many visits from celebrities over the years. People like President Reagan, Muhammad Ali, Robert De Niro and Nancy Sinatra just to name a few. In more recent years cellphone cameras, although sometimes blurry, allowed us to snap a few pics. Nino with President Reagan, Michael with Gaylord Perry (SF Giants), Michael and Anthony with The Chief Robert Parish (Boston Celtics), Anthony with André 3000 (OutKast), Michael and Anthony with Alan Kalter (The Late Show w/David Letterman), Anthony with Da Mayor Ed Lee, Anthony F. with Matt Kenseth (NASCAR)

To Our Beloved Fans, In September of this year, for the first time in 81 years, it is expected that no. 9 Fishermen's Grotto will have an owner other than The Geraldi Family. We are thankful to the new owner that he will give our current staff the opportunity to continue on with his team. 70% of restaurants fail in their first 3 years. Fishermen's Grotto is an amazing feat. Having expanded 3 different times in our history we employ 85 residents of our community, we maintain ...18,000 square feet of a 81 year old building merged with a 107 year old building, we serve over 300,000 guests per year. To say it is a challenging business is an understatement. Everything we have accomplished in the past 80+ years is a tribute to you, our fans. Many of you are more than that, you are friends. You have made the effort and sacrifice worth it. We want to acknowledge our founder, Mike "Pa" Geraldi who took the risk in search of a better life when he left Sicily at age 14 and had the vision to transform San Francisco by opening Fishermen's Grotto at fish stall no. 9; Fisherman's Wharf's first sit-down restaurant. The restaurant would grow to provide a way of life for four generations of his family. His death was untimely in the late 1940's but with hard work and dedication his sons Nino, Michael, Lawrence, Alphonse and daughters "Cookie" and Eleanor were able to bring the restaurant to iconic status for the next 50+ years. During much of that time and for close to twenty years after all had passed, their sons Michael (Nino) and Gus, Al, Anthony and Ricky (Michael) carried on the family tradition. Even many of Pa's great-grandchildren got a chance to work at Fishermen's Grotto including Anthony who has been fortunate to work as a partner along side is father (Michael) and cousins for the past 7 years. We are forever grateful for your loyalty. We will certainly miss the opportunity to greet and serve you day in and day out. It is our hope, that over the next 2 and half months, you will come visit with us one (or more) last time. - Gus, Anthony F., Ricky, Michael and Anthony M. Geraldi
