First Tee

We would like to thank Ted and Laura Foxman for their generous donation of KLVN golf products (shirts, hats, umbrellas, towels, and gloves). These products will help support the youth in our chapter and the out-reach programs we conduct.

Fifteen years have come and gone since First Tee Greater Pasadena was founded. Our first story in our 15 for 15 campaign tells one that maybe our First Tee community has never heard. It’s the story of how three community-minded people took an opportunity and developed an organization that would impact the lives of thousands. In 2004, the City of Pasadena City Council directed the Rose Bowl Operating Company to develop a youth golf program that would be supported by a fee ...increase from patrons at Brookside Golf Club, a 36-hole facility adjacent to the world-renown Rose Bowl Stadium. David Sams, former Rose Bowl Director of Golf Operations along with his decades of experience developing municipal golf facilities and golf community programs enlisted CEO of RBOC, Darryl Dunn and Bob Baderian, who at the time was well known for his ability to get things done as a recently retired City of Pasadena government official and has since served as the Executive Director for First Tee Greater Pasadena. Upon searching for the best junior program to serve Pasadena area youth, Sams, Dunn, and Baderian were intrigued and attracted to a youth program that did not just teach golf but also focused on introducing core values and life-skills while also welcoming diversity within a community. That perfect fit for the newly developed junior program at Brookside was First Tee. In 2006, when our program first launched, there were 89 participants taught by two coaches Kathy Cho and Gary Baker with a budget of $30,000. Fast forward 15 years and our program has reached more than 200,000 youth and a budget now that supports in delivering positive youth development via the game of golf to program locations across the San Gabriel region. In preparation for the start of the Pasadena City Championship, our members alongside members of Brookside Men's Golf Club took to the fairways Monday to fill in as many divots as possible. Thank you Brookside Men's Club for the opportunity to give back to the community that gives so much to our program!
