Make sure that includes the 3 C's from our CAPP Program! Show us how you're using your new CAPP knowledge in the station! Be sure to tag us in a picture or drop it in the comments. You could win a #CAPP patch or helmet sticker! We’ll pick our favorites on Monday, October 19th, share them with our fire family, and message the winners to get their prizes to them by mail. Haven’t started your #CAPP education? Check it out here: www.firefighteraid.org/capp. Share it with your friends too to help them mitigate their cancer risks!

THE RESOURCES One of our program's main goals is to share what we've built and make our program available to Firefighters everywhere for free. Yes, we said FREE! It's easy for any fire station or department to take what we have created and implement it to start making change. From our informative posters of peers who have battled cancer and won, to warning and identifier stickers place throughout the stations to serve as reminders, and the most impactful piece of our program......our 8-minute CAPP video. Learn more here: www.firefighteraid.org/capp-resources.

THE SOLUTION The solution is to break down the stereotypes of what it means to be a firefighter and teach them how to protect themselves every day from the threat of cancer. In 2018, we partnered with National University for a live filming of our CAPP Program curriculum. In front of a class of 70, our CAPP Program Ambassador presented the curriculum to help them understand how simple it really is for any fire department to combat job-related cancers with tools that they curr...ently have in their stations. Now we want to share it all with you. Learn more here: www.firefighteraid.org/capp-solutions.

Please pause for a moment of silence in honor of San Francisco Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Cortez who was lost in the line of duty. We're sending healing energy to all of the San Francisco Fire Department, friends, and family, particularly his two young children. Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and selflessness.

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month in full swing, we want to introduce SDFD Captain Piper Denlinger. She's not only a female Fire Captain, but she's a cancer warrior too! In 2010, Captain Denlinger was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer and battled it heroically, so don't even think of messing with her! She's passionate about female empowerment in firefighting and taking care of her crew. Whether it's feeding them during the COVID pandemic with us or sharing CAPP daily miti...gation techniques, she's always looking out for her fire family. After her treatment, Captain Denlinger got involved with our CAPP Program to warn others of job-related cancer risks, educate them on how to decrease those risks, and make sure they’re checking themselves regularly to ensure a healthy retirement in the future. Captain Denlinger, you're a warrior with a huge heart, and we're honored to know you and be able to share your story!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it's the perfect time to talk about our friend, Lorraine Hutchinson! Retired SDFD Deputy Chief Lorraine Hutchinson is not only a bad ass biker chick, but she also kicked cancer's butt! Diagnosed in November 2012 with breast cancer, Lorraine continue to work as Fire Ops' B Division's Deputy Chief/Shift Commander through 2015 when she retired after 25 years of service. She's as tough as they make em' and cancer was no match for her e...ither! Lorraine's passion about educating others, especially Firefighters, about the risk factors associated with breast cancer, and her goals are directly in line with our CAPP Program. She's so passionate about it, she even hosted a ride at Harley Ride to benefit FirefighterAid and share knowledge, raise awareness, and talk about screening opportunities with the community and her fire family. All while celebrating the strength of those battling or have battled breast cancer in the past. Lorraine, you are a warrior, super hero, and we're so grateful for your courage and your strength! Cancer can kiss our axe!!!

THE PROBLEM For us to effectively build our CAPP Program, we had to properly identify the problem. Through our years of research, we were able to identify more than one problem. Part of the problem is that there are so many aspects of the problem, it's not easy to say that there is just one answer. There are lots of solutions that lead us to the answer. Learn more here: www.firefighteraid.org/capp-problem.

WELCOME TO CAPP In 2015, we launched our CAPP program to try and get to the bottom of the question, What's killing our firefighters? - the answer wasn’t fire. Today's firefighter will most likely not die in a fire saving a life; they will die in a hospital bed from work-related cancer. 2015 revealed shocking statistics of firefighters battling work-related cancers. Cancers that we believe to be preventable. CAPP was founded with the sole purpose to reinforce best practices ...of firefighters in the workplace specializing in Clean Air, Clean Body, and Clean Gear. The program includes a mandatory cancer training class, an impact video, warning identifiers, behavioral and cultural changes to prevent cancer, and posters of peers in every fire station and apparatus. Most importantly, our CAPP Program is on a mission to break down stereotypes of what it means to be a firefighter and educate them on how to protect themselves every day from the threat of cancer.
