Fairfield Firefighters have responded to three backyard BBQ fires today. This serves as a great reminder to review grill safety tips and never leave a bbq unattended. Here are some safety tips & facts from NFPA: Fairfield and charcoal bbq grills should only be used outdoors.... The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area. Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill. Never leave your grill unattended FACTS 10,600 home fires are started by grills every year. July is the peak month for grill fires. 19,700 patients went to the ER per year caused by BBQ related injuries. Gas grills contribute to a higher number of fires than charcoal grills.

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued over portions of the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin Valleys and lower foothills Sunday through Tuesday. This includes Solano county and the City of Fairfield. Unseasonably dry fuels combined with gusty winds and low humidity will bring the potential for critical fire weather conditions. Please use caution around dry grass and the wildland areas around the city.

Solano County acknowledges that Bay Area counties are trying to do what is best for their healthcare system and residents. At this time, Solano County will foll...ow the State’s guidelines for issuing a Stay at Home order when our region’s ICU capacity is at 15% or less. Although we’ve seen an increase in hospitalizations, currently, our ICU capacity stands at 35%, above the State’s threshold. Here in Solano County, we have decided not to add additional orders on top of what the State has already issued, as it restricts local businesses even further, causing additional economic hardship; and the evidence shows businesses are not where the major spread of COVID-19 takes place. The primary contributor of spread is personal behavior and people gathering with others outside of the household without following safety measures, like masking and physical distancing. We understand the frustration and fatigue that our community is feeling after nearly a year of COVID-19 restrictions these are very challenging times for all of us. However, this is not an excuse to let our guard down. As cases continue to increase and our hospitals become more impacted by COVID-19, our entire community needs to work together to bring down case rate. We’re urging our residents to help our local businesses by staying home and slowing the surge - limit gatherings with people outside of the household, wear a mask in public settings, and be mindful that the risks we take affect not just our own, but also those of our loved ones. Solano Public Health will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with our local hospital partners and the State to protect the public’s health, our healthcare system and our workforce to save lives.
