Monday // December 7th // 1 pm - 2 pm // Please join us for a talk with the CRENSHAW DAIRY MART’s CO-FOUNDERS ALEXANDRE DORRIZ, NOÉ OLIVAS, AND PATRISSE CULLORS. JUST SOUTH OF MANCHESTER AND OFF OF CRENSHAW, STANDS TALL A FORMER DAIRY MART, HOME TO AN ARTIST COLLECTIVE AND ART GALLERY DEDICATED TO SHIFTING THE TRAUMA-INDUCED CONDITIONS OF POVERTY AND ECONOMIC INJUSTICE, BRIDGING CULTURAL WORK AND ADVOCACY, AND INVESTIGATING ANCESTRIES THROUGH THE LENS OF INGLEWOOD AND ITS COM...MUNITY. WHAT THESE BLACK AND TRANSNATIONAL IDENTITIES SEEK IS AN IMAGINATION OF NEW COLLECTIVE MEMORY THROUGH PROGRAMMING, EVENTS, AND ARTS INSTALLATIONS WHICH CULTIVATE AND NURTURE COMMUNAL ARTS AND EDUCATION. THE CRENSHAW DAIRY MART EMERGES FROM AN INVESTMENT IN ABOLITION, MODES OF ACCESSIBILITY IN ART PRACTICE, AND WEAVING COMMUNITY SOLIDARITY THROUGH NEW MEMORIES. RSVP: [email protected] See more

MONDAY // NOVEMBER 16th // 1p-2p // The Fine Art Department’s Lunchtime Speaker Series presents Olga Koumoundouros and Andrea Welsing, M.P.H. in a discussion about The Office of Violence Prevention Storytelling Project, a collaboration between the LA County Department of Arts and Culture (OVP), the LA County Department of Public Health and the Creative Strategist Artist in Residence (CS-AIR), Olga Koumoundouros. The purpose of the project is to collect stories of racism and ...violence from a diverse group of individuals throughout LA County in order to seek the truth about systemic racism and its impacts, to recognize how racism perpetuates violence, to acknowledge past harms, and to use information gleaned from stories to create recommendations for government policy, practice and system change. The project will reflect the actual voices and words of individuals who will share their experiences and perspectives through audio recordings submitted via the OVP website. Stories will be shared publicly through a variety of mechanisms with consent. RSVP to [email protected] for Zoom link

Wonderful news for students and educators! "Harvard and MIT filed last week asking the courts to bar DHS and ICE from enforcing the policy. The universities drew support from hundreds of peer institutions, dozens of cities and states, and student organizations." https://www.thecrimson.com///ice-lawsuit-policy-rescinded/
