There are a lot of things to complain about in 2020. But were these hardships purposeful? How does Israel's grumbling in the wilderness teach us to deal with our grumbling heart? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWpuLwGe8cE

Young people might find this hard to believe, but people used to talk to each other on the "telephone" (go look: there's a "Phone" app on your smartphone for us older folk who want to relive the 20th century). Using the "phone", you could only talk to one person at a time, so if another person called while you were already talking, the new person got a "busy signal". Then the wizards of telephony invented "call waiting" and you could put the person you were talking to "on ho...ld" and talk with the new caller. The original caller would just have to wait while you talked to the new caller: remember, you could only talk to one person at a time. With that historical context established, Pastor Steve's sermon (which continues his series on Exodus) should make more sense now. When God calls (so to speak), put whoever you are talking to or whatever you are doing on hold and talk to Him. He's more important. Passage: Exodus 3:1-4:17 Family discussion after part 1: - Why is it so amazing that God would ask us to do something for Him when we compare ourselves to Him? - What does God want us to do for Him while we’re alive here on earth? Family discussion after part 2: - How are the excuses we give for homework and chores similar to the excuses we might give to God? - What’s our biggest excuse and how should we overcome it? https://youtu.be/5AslD86f1aA

Join us online tomorrow at 8:15 am for another guest speaker. As it turns out, the speaker week is also named Jordan and is also related to one of our pastors. Jordan will preach on Our Hope in the Perfect King. https://youtu.be/exTdBYVsQUQ This is an election year, and our nation will go to the polls this fall to elect a new POTUS. Since all humans are flawed, the founding fathers wisely wrote into the 22nd Amendment that no person can serve as President for more than two t...erms. As Christians, in contrast, we have a perfect King in Jesus Christ. Jordan will share what this means and how we should behave as a result. Discussion Questions - Psalm 2 points out just how tiny we are compared to the grandeur and power of God. Do we have such an awe of His power, majesty, love, justice, and judgment when we worship Him? Why or Why not? - What things in your life threaten to sit on the throne of your heart? - The Bible promises that God’s followers are on the winning side. Our king has won and will take charge. How does knowing God is sovereign help you face life’s challenges? - What evidence of rebellion against God do you see in international events? In national events? In local events? In the lives of your coworkers? How can you help reconcile at least one person to Christ?
