FCLO Music Theatre

Griff Duncan, our dad was a wonderful man. He had a day job, but his real passion was his love of musical theatre. As many of you know, he and our mom Jan Dunca...n, co-founded Fullerton Civic Light Opera (FCLO) and produced award winning musicals for over 40 years. During that time, his love of theatre turned a sharp focus on high school musical theatre. Because of this passion he created the John Raitt Awards for Youth, or JRAY. He passed away days after the 10th JRAY Awards show in 2017. Kyle Duncan, myself, and the JRAY team of volunteers have kept his dream alive, providing unique opportunities and professional exposure through the granting of awards and educational scholarships. Due to COVID-19, the JRAY awards show scheduled for May 23 was cancelled, along with over half of the 28 high school productions the team was scheduled to adjudicate. JRAY is a grass roots 501(c)3 non-profit under the umbrella of FCLO. Our donors are people just like you, and we rely almost exclusively on private donations. We are currently filling scholarship applications from graduating seniors who have lost so much during this virus. Dear Friends, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" Dr. Seuss... On behalf of our family, I would like to thank you for your patience and consideration after Griff Duncan's transition on May 21, 2017. As many of us witnessed, Griff had every intention of beating his pancreatic cancer. Sadly, that was not the case. His belief in his recovery gave him the ability to accomplish a great deal during his illness, however, many things were left incomplete. Fortunately, he and FCLO scenic director, Larry Knigge, were able to sell the sets to Vance Entertainment and the costumes to Staged Cinema Wardrobe Rentals before Larry's retirement on July 1, 2017. The months after Griff's passing have brought many changes. During Griff and Jan's planned retirement, the FCLO headquarters was put on the market as a commercial rental property. Centinela Feed and Pet Supplies signed a long term lease with the Duncan Trust. Shook Building Systems is at the helm of the interior demolition (completed) and the subsequent goal is to bring the property to a 'vanilla shell' and ready for the new business format. The warehouse property 'next door' is now the home of Staged Cinema Wardrobe Rentals. We encourage you to drive by and take a look at 218 W. Commonwealth. Gone is anything that resembled a professional theatre business. We will always treasure the friendships and the theatre we created with you. As time challenges us to change, the FCLO headquarters is on to a new life becoming a happy place for animal lovers offering food, grooming and training. We look forward in welcoming Centinela Feed and Pet Supplies to downtown Fullerton in September of 2018. FCLO continues as a 501(c)3 with the John Raitt Awards for Youth under its umbrella. JRAY celebrates its 10th Anniversary annual awards show on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1 PM in Plummer Auditorium. It was Griff's passion and belief in awarding excellence in high school Music Theatre serving Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside Counties and the Inland Empire. Hi Friends of FCLO, the final days of clearing out the FCLO headquarters on Commonwealth are here. This means that everything must go and whatever is left will become part of the building demo (interior construction). There are lobby portraits available for the taking, even if you are not in the photo. There are printers and lots of office supplies, wingback chairs, sofas, the big directors’ table, vases, centerpieces and a many other items. I will be here today, Thursday and Friday. This truck is owned by FCLO Music Theatre and was used to transport scenery from a Fullerton Warehouse to Fullerton's Plummer Auditorium.
