Here is a great post from our friend, and Created to Create founder Natalie Summers Hansen Burg! (Vulnerability warning) At my church, FBC Lodi, we are in a new series called In the Storm. Very appropriate for these times, don’t you think? Well, many of us have had previous storms at different times in our life, and I’m going to be vulnerable here and share with you how I feel that creating led me to God, and how creating with others around a table is so life giving for w...omen. About 6 1/2 years ago I was in a storm of pain, shame, guilt, loss, and heartache. The previous few years had brought on this tsunami... cancer, feelings that I had lost my Son in my life, betrayal, addiction of a loved one, the death of my then husband, loss of all of my close friends, so many invisible losses, and honestly the loss of me...who was I now? Who have I become! Who will I become? My heart felt somewhat at peace when I created things, so I threw myself into creating even more than normal. A friend commissioned me to make her a leather bracelet with the words give it to God. Seeing it come together, and through the process, I thought maybe that’s what I need to do . At some point, I fell on my knees, with the ugliest cry ever, and did just that. I don’t remember how long I was down there, but I know it was a long time, so much so that I curled up, and fell asleep on the floor of my studio. When I woke up, I felt lighter, and less worried. The pain of loss hadn’t gone away, but I felt that I somehow I could move forward with it, beside some joy that I know must be out there for me. I pursued more grief work, and what some call Soul work...learning to walk alongside grief and Joy, allowing each in as needed. Eventually I found my church, and I found my husband. God created the Earth, and he created US in his image... we were also Created to create, whether it be a business, jobs for others, products, services, or art. Last year I started Created to Create at FBC Lodi. It’s been a learning process, and had to stop because of the virus. I’m looking forward to when I can start again. I believe a circle of creating can heal, and soothe weary hearts, and bond us together and to God. I hope you’ll join me at some point, I have fun things planned for you!
