Never getting off the ranunculus train

Hey there - back again with another DIY and this one is officially from my new home in Seattle. And wow - it still feels so weird to say that! And for all the things that are different, I'm extra happy this new home has a bit more photogenic backdrop for these videos. One thing I definitely won't miss about my little house back in California is always having my stackable washer and dryer lurking in the back of these DIYs. Anyway, today I'm making a larger than life arrangemen...t with some exceptionally beautiful flowers from the wholesale market up here in Seattle and also talking a bit (OK, a lot) about the reasons I needed to move myself (not the business) up here to Washington. For the DIYers, this arrangement had hellebores, anemones, snapdragons, ranunculus, tulips, statice, jasmine, leucadendron and bay. I hope you have fun following (or designing!) along and, as always, I hope you had exactly the type of Sunday that you needed. xx Christina See more

In about a week Farmgirl turns 10. It’s a big milestone in an uphill both ways sort of year so a party just isn’t in the cards, but double digits are worth celebrating and so a little fanfare is in order. I’m starting with a rundown of some of my biggest moments since starting the company (and some serious #tbt photos, like the gem above from 2012). Like the first time I saw someone (not friends and family) recognize and LOVE Farmgirl. I get asked about this a lot doing press... because I talk about how I got down to $411 in the bank around this time (and editors love a by-the-skin-of-your-teeth moment) but that’s only part of the story. I started Farmgirl with $49K of my savings. And that wasn’t just for the business - I had to live on it too. So $400 in the bank wasn’t just scary for Farmgirl, it was a huge oh crap moment for me, too. Two years in I was (nearly) broke. And tired. I wasn’t sure the business was going to make it. But that same week something magic happened. Someone called late needing flowers and even though it was way past business hours it was manna from heaven so I said YES! I whipped up the arrangements and was schlepping to my car when God/the Universe/whomever decided to create this crazy thing we call life gave me one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. My hands were full of burlap-wrapped bouquets (our signature - then and now) when three women stopped me to ask me if the flowers were Farmgirl. I said yes and they began to tell me how much they loved Farmgirl. One woman told me how much the flowers meant to her and that she’d received them at a really hard time in her life (I won’t tell her story but I remember every detail). I thanked them profusely, ran/walked to my car and burst into tears. You may not understand how three strangers knowing and, more importantly, loving my company meant so much but for me it was validation I needed. There were others who loved and believed in Farmgirl as much as I did. It gave me hope that my little company just might make it. I wish I had gotten those women’s names so I could thank them properly, but on the off chance you’re reading this thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

Some lavender #fgflove for your Wednesday. And what’s just as gorgeous as these lilac-colored stems? Voting. A friendly reminder that Election Day is officially less than one week away. #yepweship #farmgirlflowers

Last looks at the (more than slightly ) oversized arrangement I put together for this weekend’s DIY. Lots of fall bits, lots of fall feels. #fgflove #yepweship #farmgirlflowers

Hey there - Christina here. And I’m back for another one of my usual Sunday DIYs. Thank you everyone for all your kind comments on yesterday’s post - and for entertaining my face back here on the feed a second day in a row :) I promise it’ll be all flowers starting tomorrow (at least until next Sunday). Anyway, I’ve been trying to keep these arrangements on the smaller side lately but today I just felt like going big, so here’s a very typical Farmgirl, extra fall, extra large arrangement. I put all our favorite fall bits and greens in here - agonis, magnolia and broom corn - and kept the palette a little moodier and little more purple and burgundy than usual. I hope you enjoy making it (or just watching it!) and that you’re finding some ways to enjoy the change of season in your neck of the woods, too. xx Christina

I’ve learned a lot of lessons in the ten years Farmgirl has been around. And by a lot, I mean a million little (and big) things every day. But the biggest lesson of all? Good things rarely grow on their own. There’s a tenth year (and a ninth, and an eighth, and so on) in our story because of the incredible team we’ve built here at Farmgirl - and there’s not a day that goes by that I take that for granted. Long story short? Good things come in numbers. Like this year. Millions... of women across our country are coming together to cast their ballots. Women. Are. Voting. Voting for their future, voting for their kids, their sisters, their mothers, their fathers. And most importantly voting for the best future for themselves and for other women. I’m teaming up with @argent and @supermajority and proudly wearing this bright pink suit (and pin pack! we know a thing or two about pins at Farmgirl) to celebrate women’s voting power and celebrate Supermajority’s tireless efforts to build a powerful, diverse, women-led future where everyone is truly equal. Show off your voting power, too, using #womenarevoting and then head to the link in our bio to take even more action with @supermajority

When late nights lead to big launches - our Thanksgiving shop is now officially live! It’s going to be a different sort of holiday so it’s a different sort of lineup this year. We’ve gone heavy on centerpieces that are perfect for the simpler, smaller celebrations that we’ll be having this year (though, for the record, we’re still going just as big on the sweet potato casserole). We’ll be adding more in the next weeks, too, so keep checking back for more newness. Being a (very small) part of your holidays is one of our greatest honors here at Farmgirl, and this year we’re especially grateful. You can shop the whole lineup through the link in our profile and at farmgirlflowers.com. #fgflove #yepweship #farmgirlflowers

OK Sunday, let’s call it a wrap... I had every intention of posting another DIY today but after about three hours of trying to upload the video from my phone I discovered the majority of the middle of the tutorial had magically (or better make that nightmarishly) been filmed in slow motion . I’ll spare you the mostly flawed end result. So taking a bit of an unintended break this weekend from positing my usual how to and instead wishing all of you some rest and a smooth landing into Monday. I’ll be back (with better video luck!) next weekend #fgflove #yepweship #farmgirlflowers

I’ve only got one word for you: peonies! And no - this is not a drill. We’ve got a (very, very limited!) supply of probably everyone’s favorite flowers so you know what to do - shop while you can! Pro tip: peonies sell out (and fast!) so we’re working on getting in as many as possible. But because of the crazy demand you may notice a bit of a wait when selecting a delivery but I promise you - they are absolutely worth the wait. #fgflove #yepweship #farmgirlflowers #peonies
