Have a little extra time for DIYs this summer? This watermelon dog treat recipe from barkandbiscuits.com is the perfect way to keep your pup cool and hydrated. Be sure to use seedless watermelon and avoid any post-treat bellyaches!
Summer is fun for swimming and playing in the sun, but our pets - especially pups - may need a little extra TLC. Temperatures soar and with a higher body temperature, dogs are more susceptible to overheating and heat strokes. In fact, it's important to be aware that dogs can even overheat while swimming! A few tips to keep your pup in prime summer-time spirits: - Do not leave your dog or pet in a vehicle, especially truck beds... - If you're playing in the backyard, make sure there is an area of shade for your pet to lay under to keep cool while outdoors - Always have fresh water available; add ice cubes to keep water cool - Put sunscreen on dogs with exposed skin - Try to avoid walking in the middle of the day, when hot surfaces are hardest on your pup's paws. During cooler times of day, walk your pup on pavement so that their paws are toughened to beat the heat. Dog booties work wonders, too! If you suspect that your pet might be suffering from signs of heat stroke, call your vet immediately. Take care out there!
Home alone - again! Whether your pet is new or old, these tips will help ease their transition from lockdown to normal life. As many cities across the country begin to ease shelter-in-place conditions and businesses begin to re-open, let's make sure we think about our furry and scaled loved ones who have been spoiled with our affections, walks and play time more than usual the last 3 months. To all the dads out there: We hope you had a doggone good Father's Day!
The Today Show recently spotlighted some shelters that are using technology to host meet + greets between families and their potential furry soulmates! Tennessee’s Nashville Humane Association hosted a virtual meet-and-greet over Zoom for over 3,000 families, while Michigan Animal Rescue League is offering adorable Zoom guest appearances for $50 donations. Now that's a way to shake up your kiddo's virtual b-day or bring some zest to Zoom happy hour!

Your daily routine may have changed quite a bit over the last month, but don't forget to fit in some fun! Try to feed your pets, fit in playtime or go for walks the same time you normally would. If you have kids and normally have playtime when the kids come home from school, keep that same time reserved for fun with your pet.
The CDC has recommended that our furry friends socially distance, too! That said, not to worry: The Today Show outlined some of their best suggestions, pointing out that while walks are still important, now may not be the time for petting or friendly meet + greets. All that training you did for well-behaved walks will come in handy! https://www.today.com//cdc-recommends-pets-social-distance
