It’s been a while since we posted. Sorry about that! We have been spending a lot of time outside appreciating the spring time weather. We’ve wrapped up our solar system project and are now focusing a lot on springtime projects and art.
We love when we go get our regular COVID tests and we see one of our preschool families getting all their family members tested. We have free testing in Santa Cruz County. Go regularly! Help catch illnesses before they have a chance to spread. (https://lhi.care/start for appointments. Walk-ins are also welcome at the Civic downtown!)
Anti-racism work must include our Asian communities. Stand up and speak out against anti-Asian hate! Repost from @kimsaira An action resource plan for Asian Americans and allies, by @Annie_Wu_22 & I. Please share, repost + amplify this!... Correction to the 7th slide: Amanda Nguyn’s handle is @amandangocnguyen! Ive gotten questions from people asking Why talk about the attacks and Anti-Asian racism now? They have been happening for so long. Well first of all, questioning the need to generate awareness for anti-Asian racism is problematic in itself. But secondly, its because hate crimes towards Asian Americans have risen by over 1900% in the last year. Asian Americans are not silent. So many of us have been actively out here fighting anti-racism. But historically, we have always been silenced, which gives the incredibly false interpretation that all Asian Americans are passive & just do not care. Read our history in America- read the history of the model minority myth, the 1854 hearing of People v Hall, 1886 hearing of Yick Wo vs Hopkins, to just name a few. These are just some ways to start building safety & strength with our Asian American friends during a time where our Asian neighbors, relatives, family members, are getting hurt and killed. Its so important that we get our voices out there- DO NOT BE SILENT, it only perpetuates this false stereotype about us.

We had the pleasure of being interviewed by Thomas Pedersen for his podcast, Speak For Change. Check out our episode!
The children have been very interested in building forts, traps, and obstacle courses. It takes a lot of collective work and bargaining to make their ideas come to fruition but they’re capable and confident in working through conflict with resilience and creativity. When not flexing their muscles and planning skills the children prefer to work on fine motor development by drawing and writing using different tools and surfaces. Puzzling and building with smaller materials are always consistent favorites, too! It’s fascinating to see the ebb and flow of the day as the children find the balance of play that works for their individual needs.
