What's your all-time favorite dessert for National Dessert Day? Mine is the Most Decadent Homemade Ice Cream Cake http://ow.ly/hzxh50BMnA0... We eat this cake every year for my birthday. My mom still makes it and it's DIVINE!!! The crust is made with brown sugar, rice krispies, and butter - yes - the real deal. Layered with whatever ice cream flavors you desire. Topped with caramel sauce and chocolate syrup. Yep - not a low-fat dessert here. But it comes down to the portion size. Portions are everything and a little can go a long way. It’s finally here! Tomorrow I’ll be co-hosting a fabulous tomato farm & cannery tour with Pacific Coast Producers Fan Page (#AD) Welcome to the Heart of California Orchard & Field Tour Reimagined! We’re visiting the Meek’s family tomato farm in Woodland, CA, & talking to Steve & Sam Meek (who have had this farm in their family for over 100 years). ... *Check out the video of Sam Meek shaking the tomatoes from a vine so fresh. The best time to harvest tomatoes is when they are super red, plump & juicy. This is also when tomatoes are at their peak nutritional value so we’re getting all the fabulous nutrients such as lycopene, vitamin C, potassium, folate & vitamin K. After the farm, we jammed over to the cannery (which was a 10-minute drive) & we were able to see the tomatoes being instantly canned (which also further preserves optimal nutritional value). At the cannery, I caught up with Woodland Plant Manager, Josh Yarborough, who shared all his knowledge on the canning process. Including the many sustainable practices they are doing from water & energy conservation to recycling/repurposing packaging supplies to reducing/eliminating food waste & more. Josh also shared how effective & efficient the tomato canning process is. Special piece of my heart: Steve, Sam & Josh are all essential workers & they are feeding America. We value all that they are doing for us & we appreciate their hard work and dedication. It's another #PizzaParty for #PizzaFriday And I'll just put an egg on it. I love eggs on pizza especially when they start to run and you can use the crust to soak up the yolk. My fav.... Croatia includes eggs on their pizza. And in Spain, they have pizza topped with tuna and corn. Different toppings that are all delicious (in my opinion). I had to post it on National Homemade Cookies Day. ... Sarah Sunshine had a catering company in the Bay Area and was an incredible baker making delicious, mouthwatering desserts. She also had a fabulous website. Most of the recipes were gluten-free and vegan. And they were divine. While her company has since closed and her website has shut down. I’m so excited for the Heart of California Orchard & Field Tour Reimagined! Thanks to Pacific Coast Producers Fan Page for sharing all these upcoming FREE events with us. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be going on virtual farm tours where we’ll meet actual California growers and learn about the canning process. ... I’m thrilled because I’ll be hosting one of these farm tours where I got to learn all about canned tomatoes and then some. That event will be on Wednesday, 10/7, and I’ll share more details to come next week. But to give a little spoiler alert some of the info I got from my farm tour was: The Meek’s family farm has been in the industry for over 100 years! Their tomatoes are grown specifically for canning. When the tomatoes are harvested, they’re brought to the cannery in under 5 hours which preserves optimal freshness of the tomatoes. The cannery has a ton of sustainable practices in place from water and energy conservation to reusing/recycling packaging supplies and more. Canned tomatoes are packed with nutritional value. There is a lot of valuable information from this tour and you won’t want to miss it. For this week’s events, featured guests will be Tawnie Graham from Kroll's Korner - RDN where she visits pear and peach growers and learns how they can the fruit to perfection.
